Media and Democracy Under Threat

There's a roadmap Dictators use to seize power and silence critics, damaging democracy beyond recognition. It involves weaponizing inuendo, false news, and making independent journalists 'the enemy' and moves quickly to militarizing elections and aid services. Fillipino Dictator Roderigo Duterte has taken the map into overdrive with tactics our own President is just fine-tuning here.  

Stand for Press Feedom
In this call, we'll hear from courageous Fillipina Senator Risa Hontiveros who has been threatened with murder, rape and having her children kidnapped in order to silence her. She discusses the way the Dictator uses fake news and innuendo to cripple independent critics and silence media critique and legislative opposition. And we'll hear from amazing free media warrior Lisa Graves  about how the US media is being attacked and the disturbing results for our democracy. Lisa directed the Center for Media & Democracy, fought hard against ALEC, and is now co-Director of DOCUMENTED. She began her career as Deputy Assistant Attorney General at the US Department of Justice.
