2025 HORIZON TX MISSION PROJECT

The Jerri Savuto Girls Center

The center is changing lives of girls in rural Kenya. This refuge allows girls as young as 7 to escape female genital mutilation (FGM) and forced marriage. The tradition of FGM is hard for most of us to imagine or understand. Read this book from the UWFaith Reading Program to understand the girls' situation.

The Girls in the Wild Fig Tree

THE GIRLS IN THE WILD FIG TREE:

HOW I FOUGHT TO SAVE MYSELF, MY SISTER,

AND THOUSANDS OF GIRLS WORLDWIDE

by Nice Leng'ete

This is the story of a girl who escaped FGM and you can learn about the culture and practice from her perspective.Written in an easy to read style, you'll be inspired by her story of how she went to school and became an activist changing thousands of lives.

Texas Impact: Transforming Faith into Action

2024 United Methodist Social Principles say "Our involvement in political systems is rooted in the Gospel imperative to love our neighbors, to do justice and to care for the vulnerable."

Concerned about issues being discussed and laws being made in Austin but want some clarity? Texas Impact provides factual information and outreach tools to inform us and help us engage on issues that reflect our shared values. This week's Action Alert features more information on these issues:
