Upcoming NPR News series: 'China, post-COVID'

Chinese people in line for COVID tests Nov 17 2022

China retained its strict COVID lockdowns much longer than other countries—in fact, it was just this time last year that China opened up. NPR's International Desk will take a closer look at some of the repercussions and challenges as the Chinese economy slows, the social contract with younger workers shifts, and China’s relationship with the West has been changed. This NPR News series is set to begin later this month during Morning Edition and All Things Considered. Stay tuned.

Holiday gift guides: NPR's 'best' lists

Every year NPR compiles a list of hundreds of titles in its Books We Love list — all with a recommendation from NPR editors, producers, reporters and hosts — plus previous years' lists to filter through to find a great gift for the readers you know, or yourself.

If you're looking for a cookbook to give, Here & Now resident chef Kathy Gunst has done the legwork for you with her list of best cookbooks of 2023, which she says was another great year for cookbooks that elicit a sense of excitement about getting in the kitchen.

Even in this day of streaming music, the album is still not dead, and would thrill the new music lover on your list. NPR Music compiled the 50 Best Albums of 2023, featuring masterworks by veterans, newcomers, iconoclasts and at least one supergroup.

If there's a gamer on your list, they'd tell you 2023 was an impressive year for new releases. Story-driven experiences, multiplayer shenanigans, or games for kids or less-experienced players made NPR's Best games of 2023.
