Mitra obtained her Bachelor of Science in Accounting & Finance from the University of Mazandaran in Iran and her Master of Business Administration from California State University, Stanislaus (MBA). She received her Master of Accountancy at DeVry University, Keller Graduate School of Management (MAS), with an emphasis in certified public accounting (CPA in Progress). Mitra spent the first 12 years of her Accounting & Finance, working in a few big corporations such as Sun Microsystem, FMC United Defiance, Sony Corporation, and Watkins-Johnson in Palo Alto. In 2001, Mitra founded her own Accounting practice, Behnam Accounting Solutions, Inc, and has focused her practice on general business consulting, accounting, auditing, and tax service. Mitra is the founder and has been active at Roya Foundation (International Alliance to Assist Children). She served on the Board of Advisory at ITT Institute Technology, Treasurer of Westside Pioneer, Tracy Mausam, Ambassador of Tracy Chamber of Commerce, and Tracy Community Task Force on Homelessness.
