Message from the Associate Dean - BCH Oakland
April 2025

Spring Has Sprung!
It was nice to see those of you who could attend the morning mixer on April 2nd, which also served as a belated Doctor’s Day celebration. We also convened some key listening sessions in March to support the academic missions. Many thanks to Jon Giacomi, Associate Vice Chancellor for UCSF Campus Life Services, on transportation. We also hosted Hal Collard, Vice Chancellor for Research, and Sharon Chung, Medical Director of CTSI's Clinical Research Services, to discuss research strategies https://osr.ucsf.edu/. Both referred to their respective websites for more information and updates.

I want to congratulate Celeste Allen and all the members of the Selection Committee for a very successful match for the Pediatric Intern Class of 2025-2026! Thank you to all who served during this process.
Be well,
Kelley

Reminder About the BCHO Acronym
For many years, UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland has been referred to by the acronym “BCHO” in written and verbal communications, both internally and externally.
Starting in 2021, we have asked our workforce to commit to stop using this acronym at all times and in all venues out of respect for our colleagues, patients, and the communities we serve. “BCHO” is a Spanish slang profanity for certain cultural groups.
The use of this acronym undermines our vision to build an organization rooted in cultural humility, inclusiveness, and health equity and live our PRIDE values. Seemingly small steps such as this can profoundly impact our long-term success as a truly inclusive and equitable employer and health care provider of choice.
Thank you for helping spread awareness and continuing to promote this change.
| | Still Open for Recruiting Staff for the Bone Health Study | |
Zahara Jones, Clinical Research Coordinator at BCH Oakland, is working with Dr. Ellen Fung on her Bone Health Study. They recently received IRB approval to recruit staff as healthy controls for the study.

How Do I Get a Book or Article When UCSF Doesn't Have It?
You can request a copy from another library through our Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service!
- If you're searching a database such as PubMed@UCSF, click on the “Get it at UC” button in your search results. If online access is not available, follow the prompts to request via Interlibrary Loan. You will need your MyAccess credentials.
-
If you’re searching for a book or book chapter, search in the UC Library Search by title. If UCSF does not have online access, click “Request Through Interlibrary Loan” option. You may need to click “Include items available through Interlibrary Loan” in the upper left corner of the page to see all results.
Note: Requested books can currently only be picked up at Parnassus.
There is no fee for UCSF affiliates to use this service. Most articles and book chapters are emailed within 4 working days.
