Autumn Colors

Autumn is a wonderful time of the year. The colors of this time seem to find their way into almost every shade. Gentle breezes rustle through the trees, and the nip of morning air stirs a notion of change. Creatures of all sorts take note of the change and begin to make their plans. Some are on the move, some are storing food, and others are simply getting ready for a long nap.

Looking at the wonder and complexity of plants, animals, the earth itself, and all the contents of heaven I cannot help but ponder the power and mystery of God. My mind cannot fathom or begin to comprehend all the change that takes place in a few short weeks. When I look at all the wonder of creation, I cannot help but agree with the Psalmist of almost three thousand years ago.

“When I consider Thy heavens, the work of Thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which Thou hast ordained; what is man, that Thou dost take thought of him? And the son of man, that Thou dost care for him? Yet Thou hast made him a little lower than God, and dost crown him with glory and majesty! Thou dost make him to rule over the works of Thy hands; Thou hast put all things under his feet, all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field, the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes through the paths of the seas. O LORD, our Lord, How majestic is Thy name in all the earth!” (Psalm 8:3-9).

Autumn speaks to us about the rhythm of life. Things come and things go, but nothing comes or goes apart from the boundless love of God. In the midst of change, God is with us. In the midst of joy or sorrow, God is with us. In life and in death, God is with us. Real peace comes from knowing that God is always with us, and that God is always acting on our behalf. With such assurance changes in life can become as beautiful as the colors of fall. And new moments can be welcomed like a cool breeze. Always remember, in the vastness and complexity of the universe, God thinks of us, loves us, and cares for us! There is something remarkable, beautiful, and colorful about that. God bless.

Bring your Bible this Sunday!

St. Mark's Family,

This Sunday (October 18, 2026), we will be presenting Bibles to eight of our young people! This is an exciting time and I am honored to be a part of this memory in the lives of our children.

At one point in the service, the congregation will be asked to hold up your Bibles; therefore, please remember to bring your Bible to church this Sunday. If that slips your mind (life can get busy as you’re heading out the door), no worries, we have pew Bibles. However, I thought you would like to know about what is going on in the lives of our children and support them as they grow in faith and love of God and God’s Word!

I look forward to seeing you on Sunday!

God bless,

Rick

A Note about Scammers

It has come to my attention that the scammers have now discovered that I am at St. Mark’s as Senior Pastor and they are beginning to send bogus emails and texts in my name to members.

Those emails and texts will ask you to purchase gift cards, send money, or make some sort of financial transaction — do not do any of this.

Please know, I will never send you a text or email asking you to engage in some sort of financial transaction.

If you receive such a communication, please do not open it; simply delete it.

We will report this scamming activity, but the best remedy at the moment is the knowledge that it is happening.

Please be safe in this electronic world, and as always, if something questionable comes your way, just give me a call — we can talk person to person.

God bless,

Rick
