Contact Congress to End Sanctions on Venezuela and Sign House Bill HR 1004

Democratic forces and peace movements in Venezuela, allied with the growing peace movement in the US and internationally, have been able to stop the politically motivated material aide caravan and stave off a coup in Venezuela for the time being. Our work now is to mobilize WILPF US and our friends to attend the March 16 and March 30 National Marches on Washington and marches on the west coast. We must continue to grow our movement and support a peaceful negotiation in the Venezuelan crisis. WILPF has a key role in the US to change militaristic US foreign policy towards Venezuela and the other countries in the Caribbean and Latin America.

Join marches in DC, Saturday, March 16 and San Francisco, March 30.

With the return of US appointed opposition leader Juan Guaido to Venezuela, the US has announced that its war against Venezuela will continue through extreme economic measures including the possibility of secondary sanctions and freezing of Venezuelan assets abroad. Donald Trump has extended the 2015 Washington Emergency Decree 13692, which declares Venezuela an "unusual and extraordinary threat" to US national security, for another year. This decree provides legal background for an escalation of sanctions against Venezuela.

There are two differing narratives about Venezuela. One that the Trump administration and mainstream media promotes of a Venezuelan society that is wrought with violence and a humanitarian crises. One that erases the accomplishments of the Bolivarian revolution in altering the inequitable distribution of resources and providing housing, healthcare and education to the poor. The other narrative which Dr. Alfred M. de Zayas, United Nations Independent Expert on the Promotion of a Democratic and Equitable International Order saw when he traveled to Venezuela late last year to conduct an independent study on how the Bolivarian Revolution had implemented human rights -- especially in the economic, social and cultural domain. De Zayas found a model that was an alternative to capitalism that had major achievements ignored by the mainstream media and a distortion of the so-called "humanitarian crisis," that is really about manipulated shortages and scarcities created by the private sector for political purposes and to create havoc in Venezuelan society.

The narrative created by the Trump administration and the US media has one goal -- to lay the basis for regime change through direct military intervention, a coup and now heightened sanctions and economic sabotage

CALL CONGRESS NOW TO END SANCTIONS ON VENEZUELA AND SIGN HOUSE BILL HR 1004 . We must continue to call for an end to US sanctions against Venezuela.

The sanctions are illegal and only harm the Venezuelan people by causing them undue hardships and death. We must push for a peaceful negotiation as offered by the Vatican, Mexico, Uruguay and Bolivia to mediate. In addition, please call and lobby your member of Congress to sign onto  House Bill HR 1004 which prevents the president from using funds to take any military action related to Venezuela without approval of Congress.

Hands Off Venezuela!
No to Sanctions!
Yes to Peaceful Negotiations!
