Greetings!
Today is Giving Tuesday, and I'm asking you to help Be An Elf bring joy to low-income children on Christmas morning. This year we will adopt as many USPS letters to Santa as our donations will permit. We'll respond to letters from kids and moms asking only for "new shoes, size 8," "a warm coat," a toy, and other basic necessities.
One letter said, "I'm sad this Christmas because my Mom lost her job. I'm not asking for much, but I need new clothes. I feel ashamed sometimes at school."
Be An Elf does more than adopt letters; thanks to a major in-kind grant from Google for free advertising, we recruit new volunteers every year who also adopt letters. Our news releases and Google ads increase public awareness of the USPS program, and our website offers tips to volunteers who adopt letters.
We also offer tips for struggling families asking for help getting their kids gifts this year, and to companies to help them organize employee teams to adopt letters to Santa.
Some letters we adopt are from single moms who say their children are still too young to write and list their kids' ages and clothing sizes. Be An Elf uses donations to help send the Moms $100 Target gift cards; we trust the moms will buy what their kids need most.
