Our Paved Trails are Officially Open! | |
It was a pretty special day for Caledonia Nordic as we officially opened our new paved roller ski and roller biathlon trail network. It was great to see so many members, supporters, athletes, community partners and friends of the club come together to celebrate. This project has been years in the making, so seeing everyone out enjoying the trails and sharing in the moment made all the hard work worthwhile.
It has been fun to see the paved trails become a part of our operations. They give our members another way to enjoy Caledonia Nordic year-round, create opportunities for new programs and camps, and allow us to welcome more athletes and events to Prince George. It is exciting to think about where this will take our club over the next several years.
One of the things that stood out to me during the opening was hearing the kind words shared about Caledonia Nordic. Thank you to Kevin Charlston, Chief Dolleen Logan, Kevin Pettersen, Mayor Simon Yu, Derek Baker and Minister Anne Kang for taking the time to speak at the opening and recognizing what makes our club so special. It was great to hear your comments, not only about the trails themselves, but about our volunteers, staff, athletes, members and the incredible community that has been built here over the years.
A huge thank you goes to the Province of British Columbia through the Destination Development Fund and the Government of Canada through PacifiCan for believing in this project and helping make it happen.
I also want to thank our Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, contractors and everyone who played a part along the way. Projects like this do not happen overnight, and they certainly do not happen without a lot of people willing to roll up their sleeves and get involved.
Finally, thank you to all of our members. Whether you volunteer, coach, participate in programs, purchase a membership or simply come out and enjoy the trails, you are the reason Caledonia Nordic continues to grow. I cannot wait to see these trails being used by our community for many years to come.

Caledonia Criterium
(It's a Bike Event)
Sunday, September 30, 2026
| |
Speaking of the well used Paved trails, we have come up with some alternative events!!
On Sunday, September 13, Caledonia Nordic is partnering with the Prince George Cycling Club to host the Caledonia Criterium on our paved trail network. Whether you are a seasoned cyclist, just getting into road riding, or simply looking for a new challenge, there is a category for you.
The event features three categories, making it easy for riders of all abilities to get involved.
- Categories A and B are designed for more experienced riders, with suggested lap times, cash preem prizes throughout the race, and prizes awarded to the category winners.
- Category C is all about having fun. There are no lap requirements or pull rules, making it a great option for anyone wanting to experience a criterium for the first time. Random prizes will also be awarded.
If you have never raced a criterium before, think of it as fast-paced racing on a short, closed course where everyone starts together. When the clock runs out, the first rider across the finish line wins!
Leading up to race day, there will be practice nights on August 7, 14, 21 and 28, along with September 11, beginning at 4:00 pm and continuing until dark. These evenings are a great opportunity to learn the course, figure out which category is the best fit, and meet other riders. The race will use the short loop in reverse, making the tightest corner an uphill climb for a safer race.

The fun does not stop with the racing. There will be food and snacks available, a kids' race is being planned and, if everything comes together, there may even be a cold beverage available after the racing! Even if you are not planning to race, come out, cheer on the riders and enjoy the atmosphere.
The $25 entry fee supports the race programs at both Caledonia Nordic and the Prince George Cycling Club. Registration will open soon!
We love seeing our paved trails being used in new ways, and this is another great example of how they are creating opportunities for our community. Whether you are racing, volunteering, cheering from the sidelines or simply coming out to see what a criterium is all about, I hope to see lots of familiar faces on September 13.

As you can imagine, riders are excited to get out and practice the course before race day! As a result, the paved trails will be used in REVERSE during practice nights.
The route (Lower Paved Trail Loop) was selected to provide both a fun challenge for the riders and the safest race course possible.
Practice Nights (Friday Nights):
- August 7, 14, 21 and 28
- September 11
- 4:00 pm until sunset
We would like to keep these times exclusive for the riders. If you are itching to get out during these times, check out the singletrack or nordic trails as an alternative. Or head out for a round of disc golf. So many options available
Be aware, there are three singletrack crossings where extra caution is encouraged:
- Karma (Greenway stretch)
- Karma (Para Nordic Connector)
- Freeway (bottom of Nightrider)
Please ride respectfully, be aware of others, and continue to share the trails. Together we can make sure everyone has a safe and enjoyable experience.
Thank you for helping make Caledonia Nordic a welcoming place for all trail users.

The event features:

Just a reminder that we are still looking for three members to serve on this year's Nominating Committee as we prepare for our October AGM.
The committee is responsible for identifying and encouraging members who may be interested in serving on the Board of Directors and presenting a recommended slate of nominees to the membership. It is a short-term commitment, but an important one for the future of our club.
If you are interested, or would like to learn more, please contact me at gm@caledonianordic.com.
Thank you for considering this opportunity to help shape the future of Caledonia Nordic.

We are also looking for members who may be interested in serving on the Caledonia Nordic Board of Directors.
If you have ever thought about getting more involved with the club, this is a great opportunity. You do not need previous Board experience—just an interest in helping guide the future of Caledonia Nordic and working as part of a great team.
Expressing your interest does not commit you to running for a position. It simply starts the conversation and gives the Nominating Committee an opportunity to answer your questions and tell you more about the role.
If you would like to learn more, please contact me at gm@caledonianordic.com or speak with one of our current Board members.
Thank you for considering this opportunity to help shape the future of Caledonia Nordic.
