From Shauna Walch

DEAR FRIENDS,

We are thrilled to share that a Compass Point prototype will be built in Sonata Park, located in Seven Hills. This Compass Point will serve as a place to rest, reflect, and renew one's mental, physical, and spiritual energies while enjoying the park and views of the McCullough and Spring Mountain ranges.

Sonata, one of four City of Henderson parks in Seven Hills, features playground and picnic areas, tennis and basketball courts, and ample green space where, once upon a time, my sons played their first soccer games (Go Tigers!). The park also boasts a 10-acre natural area that connects to paved trails that wind through the Seven Hills master-planned community. The Compass Point will be constructed in the natural area as part of the Sonata Park improvement plan. The Compass team will begin the visioning process this month and construction is anticipated to begin late in the first quarter of 2024.

We are grateful to City of Henderson Council Mayor and Council, Director of Parks and Recreation Shari Ferguson, and her leadership team for their enthusiasm for The Compass's potential to provide places of hope and healing that promote the mutual thriving of humans, habitats, and economies. The Compass Point will be a model that nurtures the imaginations of other community stakeholders interested in The Compass vision and mission.

Thank you!

TRUE NORTH — DAN & MARY STEWART

Birthing The Compass concept has been like bringing another child into the world. That's why City Councilman Dan Stewart and his wife, Mary, were among the first friends asked for insights.

I met the Stewarts through Dignity Health - St. Rose Dominican Hospitals in the late 1990s. I led the hospital's communications. Dan served on the foundation board — and Mary volunteered her good taste and grace to the Foundation's Mardi Gras Balls.

Dan and Mary later became neighbors Greg and I could count on for excellent parenting advice delivered with wisdom and wit. When seeking input on The Compass, they again provided informed, good-natured counsel.

Thank you, Dan and Mary!

NEW COMPASS LOGO

Award-winning corporate identity and branding designer Anton Tielemans is the outdoor lover who recently refined The Compass logo (above).

“Going out into nature enjoying and admiring God’s creation helps me stay focused on what’s important in my life," says Anton. Nothing can substitute a good walk or hike that clears my mind and gives me respite from the everyday challenges we all experience.”

The new, crisper design incorporates a map "pin." As the Compass grows, each Compass Point will be pinpointed on a web-app map with the logo. The original logo colors were retained including shades of blue that represent the sky, water, and mountains. The color orange honors the sun and earth.

We look forward to introducing you to other Compass team members in the months to come.

OCTOBER 1 MEMORIAL DESIGN

On the sixth anniversary of the 1 October shooting, Clark County officials held a remembrance event with an opportunity to view the beautiful JCJ Architecture memorial design that will be built to honor the 58 victims, support their families and survivors, and acknowledge emergency responders. Community artistic expressions such as poems, paintings, photographs, and architectural designs were also displayed. We are honored that The Compass concept, initially created as a response to the tragedy, was among the showcased art.

THE POWER OF PARTNERSHIPS!

This pilot program is in effect until the end of the year.

When we get away from the voices of human beings,

then we really start hearing the voices of the animals and trees.
