The National Press Club Journalism Institute is starting a reading group for people who love journalism and books and want to discuss them both. The first book we’ll read together is "Susan, Linda, Nina & Cokie: The Extraordinary Story of the Founding Mothers of NPR." (Watch National Press Club President Lisa Matthews interview NPR’s Founding Mothers and the book’s author.)

Our first reading group meeting will be Thursday, May 13 at 6 p.m. ET, and we’ll discuss the book’s prologue and first five chapters. We’ll read and discuss the rest of the book in the following weeks. RSVP here to receive the Zoom link and other information.

This group, “Reading Through,” builds on the success of “Writing Through,” the Institute’s writing group for nonfiction authors. If you’re interested in learning more about that group, please email Julie Moos at jmoos@press.org.
Managers like to keep a hand in what they used to do. It's tempting because confidence is a motivator, and you were really good at that. But if you're still doing parts of your old job, there's some part of your new job that you're not doing: important but not urgent things like planning, strategizing, giving feedback, coaching. So make sure you’re focused on the job you have — and the job you aspired to — not just the job that you used to do.
