Project Update: Force Main Replacement Along Pine Tree Drive

Notice Date: Friday, December 6, 2024

Project Overview & Benefits

The City of Miami Beach is replacing aging sewer mains on the Pine Tree Drive bridge between 49 and 51 Streets with two subaqueous sewer lines. These pipes are deemed critical in the City's Sewer Master Plan and are in poor condition, having surpassed their useful life. This project will improve the overall efficiency and reliability of our system.

What's Happening

Construction will extend across the Flamingo Waterway, starting at Sewer Pump Station #15, located at the intersection of Pine Tree Drive and La Gorce Drive, and continuing to the south side of the bridge near 49 Street and Pine Tree Drive. Once completed, road, landscaping, curb, and/or sidewalk repairs will be performed to restore the area to pre-existing conditions.

Maintenance of Traffic (MOT)

This project will be completed in seven phases. Details of lane closures for Phase 1 are provided below:

Phase I

  • Northbound (NB) Pine Tree Drive between W 47 and W 51 Streets will be reduced to a single lane.
  • Left turn from W 51 Street onto Pine Tree Drive will be prohibited.
  • Southbound (SB) La Gorce Drive will be narrowed to a single lane at W 51 Street.

Timeline

Phase I of this project is scheduled to begin on Monday, December 9, 2024. Construction activities will be executed in phases to minimize impacts on the surrounding neighborhood. Work hours are weekdays from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with additional time subject to approval and community notification. Workdays and hours may be adjusted during holiday weeks.

This project is expected to be completed in Spring 2026, though timelines may be adjusted due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.

What to Expect

  • Lane closures will be temporarily implemented during each phase of construction.
  • Residents will have continuous access to their driveways throughout the project.
  • Moderate levels of construction noise are expected during the day.
  • Construction equipment, machinery and workers will be present on the job site.
  • 24/7 parking restrictions will be in place on northbound Pine Tree Drive between W 47 and W 51 Streets. Please adhere to posted signage to avoid enforcement measures.
