Our Mission:

The preservation of an ecologically healthy Lake Maxinkuckee and its watershed

Herb Manifold of Ecosystem Connections Institute caught this photo from 8,700 ft above ground on March 8th. The lake had been completely frozen over for around 7 weeks, starting mid-January.

Hold the Date!

Details to follow. We are very excited about this big step for LMEF :)

Culver PTO STEAM Expo

LMEF was happy to join the Culver PTO and many regional agencies in the 3rd annual STEAM expo. We were all about birds this year! Several dozen visitors made simple peanut butter bird feeders, looked through guide books, and learned about digital resources from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology (like eBird and Merlin Bird ID).

See photos and recap on Facebook.

Global bird connections with CMA

LMEF President Adam Thada shared with a group from Culver Military Academy that was headed to New Zealand for spring break. During their time abroad, they will volunteer with a local conservation organization that is protecting habitat for the endangered Matuku-hūrepo bird, a relative of our own American Bittern. Thada discussed the importance of international cooperation for birds that cross boundaries on their migrations, some of which end up at Lake Maxinkuckee.
