THIS SUNDAY

Sunday, April 26, 2026

Join us this fourth Sunday in the Easter season as we continue to celebrate the Resurrection! This Sunday's theme is one of shepherding. Pastor Mary Jo will present a special message entitled Power and Process, Beth Polen and the choir (along with cellist Josh Williams) will offer a lovely anthem that combines JS Bach's beloved Wachet Auf motif with several shepherd-related hymns and Julie Smith and the Sunday School team will continue to guide our children through this celebratory time of the liturgical year.

Our readings this Sunday are:

Acts 2: 42 - 47

John 10: 1 - 10

Everyone is always welcome to worship here at Crossroads, and when we take Communion, everyone is always welcome at the Lord's table. So please tell your friends, coworkers or neighbors who may be looking for a church home about us! We worship every week in our sanctuary at 10:00 am.

This is From the Archives, where we present something from our extensive collection of archival photos, records and all manner of materials dating back to when the church was First Methodist Episcopal, to First Methodist, to Church of the Savior, to St. Paul's to Crossroads.

This week's archives item highlights a truth about groups (especially of children) and photographs, namely that it is virtually impossible to get a group of children or adults to all stand still AND smile AND have their eyes open AND look at the camera all at the same time, no matter what year or century it is.

This photograph is labeled as being of "Mr French's Primary School Department Church School Class, circa 1920."

They are all standing on or around the same Cleveland Avenue staircase that we still use as part of our annual church photo today.

We must presume that that is indeed Mr French on the right, apparently standing on something, perhaps the gate in front of the little staircase below (if that gate was there at that time). There are three other adult teachers identified: Miss Jennie Spencer, Miss Ruth Owman and Mrs Eitlegeorge, though no indication is given as to which persons those names match in the photo.

It's always interesting to have photographic evidence of how much the behavior of people changes over time, and also how little it changes over time.
