Halifax Police Department D.A.R.E. Camp Recap

From July 27 to July 31 2026, the Halifax Police Department and Halifax students took part in this year's D.A.R.E. Camp from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Silver Lake Regional High School, 260 Pembroke St, Kingston MA.

A free program provided by the District Attorney's office, Plymouth County Police Chiefs and local School Resource Officers, this camp allowed students entering 5th and 6th grade to learn decision-making skills and build confidence in a fun and safe environment.

During the program, the students participated in the D.A.R.E. program, educational activities, sports & games, arts & crafts and got their own camp t-shirts.

On August 3, 2026, the Halifax Police Department posted, "We’d like to look back at [this year's] D.A.R.E. Camp and show how great of a time everyone had! We are so thankful to have been able to take part in such an awesome program and week. Thank you to all the campers, volunteers, sponsors and everyone else who came together to create another memorable week. Can’t wait for next year!"

At the conclusion of the camp, a graduation ceremony was held for campers and their families. An incredible way to bring the community's youth together while also creating important learning opportunities, this year's D.A.R.E. Camp was a definite success!

Historical Tidbit:

Cowbell Corner

When I was growing up my grandfather, Guy Baker, use to call his corner of the world "Cowbell Corner." Over the years I used the term myself, thinking the saying was quite quaint. As the years went by Mr. Baker bought his own home on the corner of Routes 105 and 106, not far from the home where he was born, thus making this "his corner."

Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program

Halifax Farmers Market Program Aids Local Senior's

On July 30, 2026, the Halifax Council on Aging held a coupon distribution day for seniors aged 60+. The event, which was sponsored by the OCES (Old Colony Elder Services) and the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture), aimed at giving seniors better access to fresh produce. Each senior was given five, $5 coupons, which they could then use at participating farmers markets and farm stands, for select fresh produce and products.

The event is part of a larger USDA program SFMNP (Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program) which was piloted by the USDA in 2001, and became an official program in 2002. The program aims to connect seniors aged 60+ to local farmers markets and farm stands, supporting both seniors themselves and local farms and farmers.

Your Beautiful Imagination

Imagine. When we dream and create together, we emerge better and healthier people.

“Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.”

~ Albert Einstein

“Without leaps of imagination, or dreaming, we lose the excitement of possibilities. Dreaming, after all, is a form of planning.”

~ Gloria Steinem

“If you fall in love with the imagination, you understand that it is a free spirit. It will go anywhere, and it can do anything.”

~ Alice Walker

“You can’t depend on your eyes when your imagination is out of focus.” ~ Mark Twain

"Imagine all the people, sharing all the world” ~ John Lennon

"You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one…"

I hope you have time to let go of that tension and unleash your imagination, Dear Reader. It's the beginning of something beautiful!

~ Jacquie
