April 2021
Register Today!
It's hard to believe our last On the Menu gathering was held in February 2020!
Like so many things, it was paused to accommodate the changes brought to us by COVID.

A lot has happened over the past year and we're very excited to announce
we've shifted On the Menu to a virtual platform!

We're jumping right in with a six month series hosted in partnership with Candid!
(breathe - it's just once a month!)

CFOV is a Funding Information Network Partner through Candid
(formerly Foundation Center and GuideStar). This collaboration exists to support nonprofit professionals research available funding opportunities by way of Candid's incredibly robust database tools. Not only do we have dedicated research space in our building, we also have the opportunity to provide remote access to a slimmed-down version of the database.

This is A BIG deal with huge potential for our area's nonprofits! In fact, it's so big that we're bringing the Candid experts to you via Zoom for a six-part series covering all things grants!

We want to arm YOU with the tools and skills you need to successfully engage with the software to help strengthen your funding prospects and deepen your funding pool.

There is NO COST to participate in the series and we hope you'll make
space in your schedule to join us. The first session is April 20!

And! If you can't join us, register anyway!
This session will be recorded and sent to all registrants!
Check "Mother's Day Card" Off of Your To-Do List
This Mother’s Day, the Women’s Giving Circle (WGC) has the perfect gift for all the amazing
women in your life – mothers, grandmothers, aunts, sisters and friends.

The Women’s Giving Circle is proud to again host the Mother’s Day Initiative, providing donors
the opportunity to honor the women who have made a lasting difference in their lives, while
also making a difference in the lives of women and girls in the Ohio Valley.

Gifts to the Mother’s Day Initiative and the WGC generate funding to award grants to nonprofit
organizations serving the Ohio Valley . . . for generations to come.

While donors may contribute to the Women’s Giving Circle at any time, this is the
organization’s only annual fundraiser. What better way to show your appreciation for all that
mothers do than by supporting an organization that helps women and girls?

A beautifully designed Mother’s Day card will be sent to the honoree the week before Mother’s
Day. A special option is also available to be sent “in memory of” a loved one. If the gift is made
in memory of a special woman, a card will be sent to the family.

Stealey Community Fund - Deadline Approaching
Last call to submit your application for the Stealey Community Fund!

If your organization serves the Middlebourne area, you'll want to check out the Stealey Community Fund grant opportunity!

The fund has been making grant awards in the Middlebourne area for more than 20 years, allocating more than $2 million in support of local projects since its inception. The Stealey Community Fund is administered by
the Community Foundation for the Ohio Valley Inc., with the advice of the Stealey Community Fund Advisory Board.

Applications for the Stealey Community Fund will be submitted through the Foundation’s online grant portal. Interested applicants should visit here for more information and application access.

The deadline to submit the online application is April 15 at 4:00 p.m.

Created by Ruth Stealey Green, a retired teacher who died at the age of 84 on February 14, 1996 at her home in Middlebourne, the fund honors Green and her brother, Philip Stealey, who died in 1993. The Stealey family had a long history in the development of the town of Middlebourne and its activities. Interest accrued from the endowment is awarded annually to qualified and approved applicants.

It was Green’s desire that when grant awards are made, special consideration be given to programs and projects that will improve the quality of life of the residents of Middlebourne, such as improved library, recreational, municipal and youth services.

"I'll Take Community Foundations for $1000"

Most of us have probably armchair quarterbacked a JEOPARDY! episode or two - sometimes the categories shine a light on our brilliance and other times expose our "knowledge gaps".

Did you know the current run of JEOPARDY! episodes includes a strong community foundation connection?

Guest host Aaron Rodgers is taking his turn behind the lectern as the show's team works to find a host to fill the shoes of the irreplaceable Alex Trebek. The guest host is "paid" through a contribution made in their honor matching cumulative contestant earnings to a cause of their choice.

Aaron Rodgers selected the North Valley Community Foundation to receive the contributions with a designation to COVID-related small business support.

This gesture demonstrates the power of community foundations in a BIG way!
We may recognize Aaron as a Green Bay Packer, but his roots lie in the areas served by the
North Valley Community Foundation in northern California. The JEOPARDY! opportunity isn't the first time
Mr. Rodgers has dabbled in philanthropy. He also established a fund to support wildfire recovery in 2017.

Community foundations exist to support the past, present and future places people call home!

And you don't need to be a Super Bowl quarterback/guest quiz show host to make a difference!
Philanthropy is for EVERYONE and there's plenty of room at the table.
