Creating Interiors with Modern, Sophisticated, Unique Design

AYI Project Spotlight

We’re excited to share that our Anderson Township renovation and addition was featured in the August edition of Cincinnati Magazine.

Originally a barn-style home, the residence was transformed with a significant addition that more than doubled its original size. AYI was involved throughout the project, from interior selections and finishes to furnishings, creating a sophisticated contemporary interior that balances dramatic dark elements with lighter selections, rich materials, and carefully curated details.

The result is a home that feels both modern and inviting, with a strong connection between the architecture and the interiors.

September Design Perspective

The Art of Layering for Fall

As we transition into fall, it’s a natural time to bring more warmth, texture, and depth into our interiors. Layering is one of my favorite ways to create a space that feels sophisticated, comfortable, and collected over time.

Think beyond simply adding seasonal accessories. Consider incorporating textured fabrics, natural materials, layered lighting, rugs, artwork, and thoughtfully selected furnishings. These elements can add dimension and create warmth without making a space feel overly decorated.

Fall is also a wonderful time to step back and evaluate your home as a whole. Is your furniture arrangement working? Does your space feel cohesive? Are there areas that could be more functional or inviting?

Sometimes a few carefully considered changes can make a significant difference. Other times, those observations can be the first step toward a larger renovation, addition, or furnishing project.

Q&A with Amy

Q: What is the key to creating an interior space that feels timeless rather than trendy?

A: I believe timeless design starts with a strong foundation. Quality materials, appropriate scale and proportion, classic architectural elements, and well-chosen furnishings tend to stand the test of time.

That doesn’t mean a home should feel predictable or traditional. I like incorporating contemporary elements and current design influences in a way that complements the overall aesthetic rather than defining it.

The goal is to create an interior that feels personal, sophisticated, and relevant for years to come—while still allowing room for the design to evolve as your lifestyle changes.
