Our Church,

Our Home

“You yourselves, like living stones,

are being built into a spiritual house.”

—1 Peter 2:4-5

Dear Ascension Family,

As we approach Giving Sunday, I want to return to a simple question: Why do we want Ascension to grow?

For me, the answer is because Ascension is our spiritual home. Home is where we belong, where we are known and nurtured, where we share one another’s joys and burdens. But a home is also something we build and tend together.

That is what the Church is. St. Peter tells us that as we come to Christ, the cornerstone, we ourselves are being built into a spiritual house. We are not simply gathered around Christ; by his mercy, we are being joined to him and made part of the home he is building.

And because Jesus himself is the cornerstone, the home he builds reflects his welcome. He made room at the table for those others overlooked and welcomed all who came seeking mercy. Many of us have experienced that same welcome here. Having received such a gift, we now have the joy of extending it to others.

So as you prayerfully consider your giving for the coming year, I invite you to think not simply about what Ascension needs, but about the home God is building here, and the people who will find a place in it.

On Sunday, October 18, we will celebrate together at our Stewardship Campaign Celebration Potluck. I hope you’ll join us as we give thanks for what God has been doing through this parish and look forward in faith to what he will do next.

This is our church.

This is our home.

And, by God’s grace, there’s always room at the Lord’s Table.

Thank you so much for your faithfulness and for your generosity to this parish. I am excited to see all that God has for us in this coming year!

In Christ,

Trent+
