Happening at the Gem. . . . June 2025

Hello members!

Hammers and more are swinging into action this month with the start of the kitchen remodel. Generous donations from the community have made this exciting new phase of growth possible for the Gem. The Board is hopeful that we can offer improved and more frequent cooking classes, themed dinner events, and private rentals for additional revenue after the renovations are complete, and the kitchen is a true "commercial kitchen." We thank you for your patience during the process, and will keep you informed of the progress along the way. As always, thank you for your support of the Gem, it wouldn't be here without it!

The spring trail clean-up day made a substantial dent in the work needed in our natural areas. Thanks to our volunteers for showing up, bringing tools, and working hard to help maintain and clear burn piles, weeds and invasive plants, and upgrade the trails. Board VP Wayne Munger will keep us all updated on a date for the next work day, likely in the fall.

If you have any questions, ideas, comments or a desire to volunteer please feel free to reach out to me, as well as Irene. My email is stefanie.wright@gmail.com and my cell phone is 773-396-3257.

Fitness Classes

Motion is Lotion is now Full Body Fit

Tuesday’s at 9:15am with Loretta

Thursday’s at 9am with Valerie

We've changed the name and Loretta has updated the description of our Tuesday/Thursday 9:15/9:00 class. This class is all she describes and more! Please remember to share with your friends how much you enjoy this class with both Loretta and Valerie and how it is helping you see changes to full body fit. The following description from Loretta will make it easy to explain, so share it. We know so many in our community can benefit from our classes both physically and socially.

Full Body Fit-Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement, and activity for daily living skills. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a ball are offered for resistance; a chair is used for support.

Try this class if you’re looking for a full body workout including light resistance training and low-impact cardio, but modified for troublesome joints.

LOST and FOUND

Hey y'all. We have a pair of flip flops left in the Activity Center in the past few weeks. Take a look soon because these have been here so long we plan to send them to Good Sam.

There is also a white ear pod that recently showed up in the office. If you are missing one, give us a call at 512-573-5200. Thanks!
