FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!

The first day of school at NDCR was filled with JOY as our students arrived ready for both their classes and their Corporate Work Study jobs. Each of our students carries the call to be Scholars Today and Leaders Tomorrow, and we are blessed to walk with them on this journey.

As we begin this new year together, we humbly ask you to keep our entire community; students, families, faculty, and staff in your prayers.

May God’s grace guide us and may St. Julie’s joyful spirit inspire us each day.

NDCR Faculty & Staff Retreat

The Notre Dame Cristo Rey community came together in Ipswich at the home of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur for our annual Faculty & Staff Retreat. It was a day filled with prayer, reflection, and strengthened connections outside of our traditional academic setting.

Our keynote speaker and facilitator, Father Jim Gartland, SJ, of the Cristo Rey Network, guided us through conversations on faith formation, servant leadership, and living our mission with renewed purpose.

This year’s NDCR theme, “Learners Today, Scholars Tomorrow,” was woven throughout the day, grounding discussions in how we grow together as educators and mentors. A recurring prayerful refrain sung by Alex Rosario, NDCR Facilities Manager -“Here I am, Lord,” echoed during moments of reflection, enhancing the spiritual depth of the retreat.

The day concluded with a special commissioning ceremony, led by Sister Maryalyce Gilfeather, SNDdeN, President, Dr. Anthony Zavagnin, Principal, Dean Graziano, JD, VP of CWSP, and Sister Mary Murphy, SNDdeN, Phd, President Emerita.

In a moving moment of blessing, the Sisters in Ipswich prayed over our community, joined also by members of our Board of Directors.

We were reminded that the mission of NDCR is evident not only in classrooms, but also in the hearts of all who lead, serve, and support our students.

Fr. Jim Gartland, SJ, of the Cristo Rey Network inspired NDCR's faculty and staff.

Educating for Life:

Justin Olson, NDCR Teacher Embraces Leadership

At NDCR, we believe deeply in “Education for Life”. Our faculty live that value every day. Another shining example is History teacher Justin Olson, who is participating in the Cristo Rey Teacher Leadership Academy, a partnership between the Roche Center at Boston College and the Cristo Rey Network.

This powerful professional learning experience helps educators hone the leadership skills, dispositions, and competencies they need to transform their school communities—and return home empowered to make meaningful change through a school-based leadership project.

“I worked with teachers from across the network,” says Olson, “and I am excited to bring work in writing alignment back to NDCR!” This enthusiasm perfectly embodies our belief that learning never ends—for students or teachers alike.

By investing in teacher leadership, NDCR ensures our students benefit from educators who model lifelong learning, professional growth, and a commitment to excellence.

This is not just education: it’s education for life!

Faith in Action:

NDCR Students at BC's Ever to Excel Program

NDCR is thrilled to celebrate two of NDCR’s rising stars, Kiara W. and Isabella P., members of the Class of 2028 who recently participated in Boston College’s Ever to Excel summer program, hosted by the Institute for Advanced Jesuit Studies. Guided by Jesuit spirituality and the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, the week-long experience invites rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors to deepen their faith, discover personal gifts, and connect with peers from across the globe, all while immersing themselves in life on a Jesuit college campus.

At NDCR, both Kiara and Isabella are known for their joyful participation in school life, especially their leadership at Mass where they are always willing to step forward as readers. Their openness to serve shines as a true reflection of faith in action.

A special THANK YOU to Jill Joyce, our newly appointed Campus Minister, whose presence with Kiara and Isabella provided spiritual guidance and companionship, truly embodying our commitment to forming the whole person, not just the student!
