Why a Tent Revival?

What is a Catholic Tent Revival? It is a parish mission with preaching, music and sacramental ministry that takes place outside of the church building in a large tent. Why have this in a tent and not in the church building? Because we want the faith to be more visible, more accessible, outside "in the streets" especially for those in our neighborhood who otherwise might not come in if it were more hidden, inside of the church building.

Who is the Tent Revival for? It is for people of all walks of life or religious affiliation. It is for those who are troubled and burdened by life’s challenges. It is for those who are far away from the Lord and those who are practicing their faith but need it revitalized. Invite all your family and friends, especially thiose who have fallen away from the faith!

What is the purpose of this Tent Revival in the Holy Spirit? Through anointed preaching and vibrant praise and worship, and encouraging fellowship, we seek to help as many people as possible to encounter the Lord Jesus Christ and to open their hearts to a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Just before his ascension to the Father, Jesus promised to send the Holy Spirit upon his disciples to guide and empower them to live the Christian life and to give testimony to others about what He has done for them.   " You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses… to the ends of the earth". (Acts 1:4)

Why do we need to receive the Holy Spirit to give witness to Jesus? The Holy Spirit renews us, teaches us and transforms us, filling our hearts with such a love for Jesus that we long to share this love with as many people as possible. We are so transformed by His grace that we cannot be silent. When our hearts are renewed by God’s grace, we long to bless and serve those who are in need. This is the mission of our parish. This is the mission of our Tent Revival!

What if I am hurting and feeling unworthy or far from the Lord due to my sins and failures?   During our Tent Revival, our prayer and healing ministry teams will be available for prayer in the privacy of the Chapel throughout the entire weekend. A number of priests will be available for Sacramental Confession for 2 hours on Saturday evening during our Penitential Rites. All this is focused on helping people to have a life changing experience of the love, mercy and renewed hope in Jesus Christ- no matter their life circumstances.

The Charismatic Roots of St Antoninus Church (And why Jesus is the Hope for our Church and our Neighborhood) Since 1975, St. Antoninus has been a major center of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal. Most of our parishioners came from outside Newark, some traveling from distances of an hour or more, to attend our Sunday Masses. Little by little, the parish is now becoming more rooted in our immediate neighborhood, serving in a special way the newest group of Catholic immigrants. Now, 70% of our parishioners come from our Newark or the immediately surrounding towns. Read more
