It's Not About The Religion,

It's About The Relationship!

5th Sunday Cabaret this Weekend!

THE MID-WEEK BUZZ

What Will We Do With What We’ve Heard?

What a great summer we’ve had going through the Sermon on the Mount. It’s been a privilege to spend this summer with you from the pulpit each week. The Sermon on the Mount ends in a perfect way as it challenges us to think of what we will do with Jesus’ words and teachings. Will we hear them, but keep living our lives the same old way? Or will we hear them and put them into practice?

I think this verse has a lot to speak to us in this moment, not just as we finish the Sermon on the Mount. It speaks to us coming off an amazing retreat earlier this month where we were challenged to think in new ways about being an impactful church. It speaks to us as we welcome Pastor Greg back from his sabbatical to hear what he has learned and what God has been putting on his heart. What will we do with these things we’ve heard?

I invite you to think this week about what you’ve heard in these spaces and to come reflect, pray and worship with us as we sit with this question together to end our Summer on the Mount.

Savory Egg Dishes & Hot Items

  • Quiches, frittatas, and stratas are all great choices.
  • Please transport hot dishes in a thermal carrier to keep them warm.Reheating is available using our microwave for microwave-safe pans up to 10 by 10 inches.

Flat Top Buckwheat

Flat top buckwheat plays many important roles in areas where it grows:

  • erosion control (especially after fires, because it will continue to grow after a fire, as long as a small amount of the plant survived the blaze)

  • helping to restore barren soil to a biologically thriving state (it's roots form connections with helpful fungus in soil)

  • big increases in crop yields when planted in hedgerows in agricultural fields (in part because it attracts so many pollinators!) (source)

Books and More: August Reading

Books and More began reading Tracy Chevalier's “The Glassmaker” on Tuesday, August 25.

This novel is an imaginative telling of the art glass making through the centuries on the island of Murano, 1 mi away from the city of Venice. Tracy Chevalier blends history, the Murano and Venetian cultures, the role of women, family, the essence of life, death, love and all of this with one family at the center of it.

You are invited to join this wonderful group of ladies every Tuesday, in the Fireside Room at 10 a.m.

10 Principles of Disability Justice:

Principle #8

I love this disability justice principle! I appreciate that it points out not only the interdependence of us human creatures, but also how the land and all living systems are a part of our shared web. Liberation needs to include the land and all the beings living on it, not just people.

Plain Language Version

"We Depend on Each Other: We offer each other friendship, food, rides, jokes, love, and help with things we can’t do on our own. Black and Indigenous communities have always done this. We work together and rely on each other to survive and get free. This is called Interdependence."

Original Version

"Interdependence: Before the massive colonial project of Western European expansion, we understood the nature of interdependence within our communities. We see the liberation of all living systems and the land as integral to the liberation of our own communities, as we all share one planet. We work to meet each other’s needs as we build toward liberation, without always reaching for state solutions which inevitably extend state control further into our lives." Source
