We have 12 new CASA Advocates!
On April 14, the Honorable Areshini Pather gave the oath to our newest Piedmont CASA Advocates. Front row: Supervisor Becky Bassett and President Kate Duvall flank CASA Advocates Jade Dennis, Eva Steers-Smith, Jane Heblich, Allie Powers, and John Ragosta. Back row: CASA Advocates Teresa Pond, Haley Neumann, Karin Holtz, Maya Delaney, Marina Massello, and Aaron Sayne. Not shown: Victoria Wolfe-Ludwig. Congratulations - we are so glad to have you on the PCASA Team!
If you know a CASA, thank them!
This is National Volunteer Appreciation Week, so if you know a Piedmont CASA Advocate, tell them how much they mean to us and to our community. Thank them for their time, their heart, and their unwavering commitment to the youth they serve, for showing up for kids in meaningful ways - and for having a lasting impact that truly changes lives. PCASA Advocates are the best!
The Sad Behind the Mad - by Adé Leke
When I started as a Bridges to Success Coach in May of 2024, I didn't realize how much of a mirror the youths I served would be for me, and I for them. I had been a Bridges Coach for a couple of months when I first experienced a young person completely losing her temper - and I was shocked by how quickly her mood escalated.
On April 16, Kate Duvall attended a Small Charities Luncheon hosted by the Albemarle County Rotary Club (ACRC). We were awarded a $1,600 grant to help cover the travel expenses of Bridges to Success Coaches who drive more than 30,000 miles a year in service to their youth. In regular visits, they work with their young people on Independent Living Plans, setting achievable goals, planning the necessary steps to get there - and much, much more. Thank you, ACRC!
Travis Watson + Damian Harris = Hope
Huge thank-you to Coach Travis Watson and Coach Damian Harris for an amazing afternoon with Hoops for Hope on March 31! Everyone had a blast! The Coaches sent the kids away with a lot of new skills to practice, and a message of the importance of integrity, sportsmanship, and being a good listener. We’re so grateful for the opportunity to come together, have fun, and share more about the mission of PCASA. Your support and energy made the day truly special!
Foster: The CASA Cat Book Tour in Farmville
Kari Lamb spoke to a chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority at the Farmville Community Library. The audience was composed of teachers and administrators seeking to empower women educators, foster professional growth, and support community service. They purchased five books, gave some to local libraries, plus made donations to PCASA!
