ART in the WCUW Harold Stevens Gallery

Now thru Wednesday, November 4th:

Inherited Echoes:

A Central American Diaspora Exhibition

“Renacer en las Aguas de Moncagua (Rebirth in the Waters of Moncagua)” by Sueey Gutierrez

The Harold Stevens Gallery presents “Inherited Echoes: A Central American Diaspora Exhibition.” Curated by Vanessa Calixto and Veronica Melendez.

Inherited Echos brings together artists with roots across Central America, including Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Belize, and Panama.

Inherited Echoes explores how stories, culture, memory, and identity are carried across borders and generations. Through a range of artistic mediums, participating artists address memory, resistance, hope, belonging, and cultural inheritance.

WCUW is a community radio station and cultural space where art, music, spoken word, film, and conversation come together. WCUW Community radio serves as both a gathering place and a means of transmitting voices, stories, music, and memory across time and distance.

In addition, tune in to WCUW for a curated Central American music hour and conversations with participating artists. And In collaboration with Cinema Worcester, on November 1 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, there will be special screening featuring short films by diasporic filmmakers, extending the themes of Inherited Echoes beyond the gallery walls.

Gallery hours: Mondays noon to 3 pm; Wednesdays 2 to 4 pm; Thursdays 11 am to 3 pm; Fridays 11 am to 4 pm; Saturdays 8:30 am to 12:30 pm; or by appointment. Free to all!

The Harold Stevens Gallery is located inside WCUW, 910 Main Street, Worcester, MA. Parking in the Clark University lot across the street, or on the street.

Made possible in part through grants from Mass Cultural Council, Greater Worcester Community Foundation, and the Barr Foundation.

Presented by Cinema Worcester

Thursday, October 29: Cinema Worcester at the FrontRoom Presents “The Vincent Price Legacy”

Cinema Worcester in conjunction with the WCUW FrontRoom presents “The Vincent Price Legacy”, a film by Laurent Ohmansiek.

Celebrate Halloween week with Victoria Price, the daughter of horror legend Vincent Price. She’ll join us to introduce the documentary and a post-show Q&A!

Examine Price’s legendary horror career (House of Wax, The Fall of the House of Usher, The Abominable Dr. Phibes, Theatre of Blood) as well as his personal life as an art historian, collector, gourmet cook, and activist

The documentary reveals the man who was behind the horror legend, giving a voice to his family, friends, filmmakers, colleagues, historians, and fans.

This journey through his life and career, where key names in popular culture all associated with genre appear, including Rob Zombie, Alice Cooper, David Dastmalchian, and Joe Dante, demonstrates that Vincent Price’s cinematic legacy and his impact on pop culture are still more alive than ever.

Film run time is 2 hours and 16 minutes. Allow extra time for the introduction and Q&A. NR.

Showtime: Thursday, October 29, 6:30 pm.

Friday, October 30: Cinema Worcester at the FrontRoom Presents “Carnival of Souls”

Cinema Worcester in conjunction with the WCUW FrontRoom presents “Carnival of Souls”, a film by Herk Harvey.

We love this under-seen creepfest, join us! Tickets are just $5 (not including any processing fees).

Mary Henry ends up the sole survivor of a fatal car accident through mysterious circumstances. Trying to put the incident behind her, she moves to Utah and takes a job as a church organist.

But her fresh start is interrupted by visions of a fiendish man.

As the visions begin to occur more frequently, Mary finds herself drawn to the deserted carnival on the outskirts of town. The strangely alluring carnival may hold the secret to her tragic past.

“in the way it shows the horror beneath the surface of placid small-town life, it suggests “Blue Velvet,” and a shot of dead souls at an abandoned amusement park reminded me of the lurching undead in “The Night of the Living Dead.” – Rover Ebert, RogerEbert.com

Run time is 1 hour and 20 minutes. NR.

Showtime: Friday, October 30, 6:30 pm.

Purchase tickets online: . $7.18 (processing fees included).
