Dear Friends of Indigena,
In 2016 the Province of British Columbia declared May 28th as B.C. Jade Day. Here are some interesting facts about B.C. Jade.
- British Columbia is considered to have one of the largest deposits of nephrite jade in the world.
- Jade is stronger than steel and is known for its ability to be carved into intricate designs.
- The best nephrite jade is sought by local artists and transformed into art work which is in demand internationally.
-
The Jade Buddha for Universal Peace was commissioned for the Great Stupa of Universal Compassion. It is the largest Buddha in the world carved from gemstone quality jade discovered in the year 2000 in British Columbia. The carving weighs approximately 8000 lbs.
Below are several works by Chinese-Canadian Master Jade Carver, Charles Min Hu including photos of his Vancouver studio. Charles has been engaged in jade and ivory carvings for 48 years, and recently received the Outstanding Artist Award for his work from the American Time for Chinese Outstanding People Awards.
Please join us as we celebrate B.C. Jade Day!
Sincerely,
Erla, Doug, and Patti
