Greetings Connect K8 Families,
Happy October! There is much to celebrate this month, including Latine Heritage Month! We have been enjoying the book Nuestra América: 30 Inspiring Latinas/Latinos Who Have Shaped the United States in the Toon home, and wanted to share with all of you! The Smithsonian has some beautiful companion resources that you can find HERE.
Tomorrow, 10/2, is also Custodian Appreciation Day! Our school community relies on the dedication and hard work of our custodial and facilities team each and every day to ensure that our students have a clean and safe campus. Join me in appreciating our team--Ramon, Eli, John, and the rest of our facilities crew--for their tremendous support!
We also want to thank our Core 4 planning committee for executing a very special Multi-Cultural Fair, and for all of our families who contributed, participated, and attended--Thank You! The event felt intentional, magical, and a beautiful way for our community to connect and learn more about each other. We can't wait for next year! If you would like to know about the next Annual Rhythm event, our Fall Festival, read below!
Drop Off Procedures
We also want to acknowledge the news from Governor Newsom's office today regarding the COVID-19 vaccine. Our Central Office will share additional information and how it relates to Da Vinci Schools in the coming days.
Finally, we would like to invite you to our first "Admin Walk in the Park" with Kaitlin and Tami! See the below blurb for more details--we hope to see you there.
Take Care,
Kaitlin and Tami

A Message from School Nurse, Emily Green
School law requires that a screening for vision and hearing be performed upon first enrollment in a school and at least every third year thereafter until the child has completed the eighth grade.
DV Connect has begun to conduct our vision and hearing screening program for all students in grades TK, K, 1st 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th and 8th grades. (We had to catch up the students missed due to COVID closures!)
A screening program is not a means of diagnosing vision problems, but uses collected data to refer students with possible problems for further evaluation and treatment. Vision screening is not a substitute for a complete eye and vision evaluation by an eye doctor.
The screening tests are very simple and can be performed in less than 5 minutes. The school nurse will check your child’s near and distance vision and their hearing. You will be contacted if there is any reason to have your child examined by your pediatrician/family physician, or eye doctor.

Student Led Conferences
Oct. 11-14
Next week, you should receive an explanation of and sign up for Student Led Conferences! This is one of our signature (and mandatory) practices at Da Vinci Schools, where students have an opportunity to lead a conversation around their learning, success, and academic needs with adults who support them!
This semester, Da Vinci Schools will be holding SLCs virtually. Therefore, to accommodate 1:1 meetings with each family, Monday October 11th will be a homeschool day for everyone. Friday October 15th is a Professional Development Day, and there will be no school.

Ask yourself these questions:
1. Which piece of curriculum do I use most?
2. Which piece of curriculum does my child love?
3. Am I willing to share my knowledge (BIG or small) with others?
Our goal with this program is to have parents collaborate with each other to make the most of the DV Connect Supplemental Curriculum resources. There is great value in what you do for your kid's learning every day and sharing those tips and tricks will help others to find success!
