WHAT IS EXTENDED PRODUCER RESPONSIBILITY?
Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) is a mandatory environmental policy approach that makes companies legally and financially accountable for the entire lifecycle of their products, particularly at the end-of-life stage. Connecticut has been adding to its list of EPR-covered products. TIRES ON THE LIST OF EPR PRODUCTS
There is no fee for residents to drop off up to 8 passenger or light truck tires per day. The CT Tire Stewardship Program will cover the transportation, disposal, and recycling costs of managing the tires. The EPR fee will be collected when new tires are sold in Connecticut.
BRING YOUR OWN!
It’s that time of year when iced coffee or tea becomes very popular. Single use cups, even those labeled recyclable, should go in the trash. Most commercial compost facilities do not accept compostable plates, containers, cups or utensils. But there is an easy solution to the coffee shop waste scenario: Bring your own cup or travel mug to your favorite coffee shop, and consider bringing a larger cup for your iced drinks! You might just inspire others to do the same!
