Donations Save Lives

We are incredibly thankful to you, our donors, for caring for and comforting many injured animals this spring. Just last week, your donations allowed our team to help Dobie and Aurora – two kittens who arrived in need of urgent surgical and veterinary care.

Today, these two “cyclopes” find comfort in one another as they recover from their surgeries and learn to navigate with monocular vision.

Dobie was found alone along the road just beyond Newfane school. His orange stripes helped him stand out as he wobbled around seeking help. When we arrived, his eye was extremely swollen and damaged. He had to fight to survive at merely the weight of a large orange (1.4 lbs.). His little body was under attack as an inflection was setting in.

Drs. immediately got to work saving Dobie. The little guy underwent two surgeries in two days. Saving Dobie meant removing his eye and then returning the next day to remove additional tissue surgically.

Thank you for saving me!

I'm getting better because of your support!

As Dobie lay on a warming pillow resting in the care of his foster mom, Aurora arrived in the arms of her rescuers, who found her a day earlier in Saxton River. The damage to Aurora’s eye happened when she was older, and while in apparent discomfort, she wasn’t on the edge of life and death like Dobie.

We are happy to report that both are recovering! When available for adoption, they will be posted on our website.

Connecting families after tragedy

Angie, a gorgeous white deaf pittie, was with her owner when the owner suddenly died of a heart attack while doing the evening dishes. Angie’s owner was also deaf, and she used signs to communicate with Angie.

When she walked into the shelter, Angie was puzzled. She looked at our hands and our faces as if hoping we could sign, “It will be okay,” but all we could offer her was a scratch behind her ears.

Thankfully, everything would soon be okay! The owner’s ex-partner contacted the shelter, sent a photo of Angie, and asked when she could pick Angie up so their human and canine family could be together in grief.

When Angie saw the woman’s familiar face, her tail swooped from side to side, and the woman instantly signed “Angie.” Tears flowed from that moment of joy amidst their grief.

Tater

I am a happy-go-lucky fellow who still has many puppy tendencies. I would do great with some additional training. I seem to enjoy the company of other dogs and may be able to live in a home with a dog companion.

Cats are too tempting for me.
