Students Unlock Their Potential with the Cedar Park Public Works Apprenticeship Program

The City of Cedar Park proudly announces the Public Works and Utilities Apprenticeship Program. This initiative, a collaborative program with the Leander Independent School District (LISD), offers high school seniors an exciting opportunity to kickstart their careers immediately after graduation.

Recognizing that college is not the only pathway to success, our program provides an alternative for those who thrive outside of traditional academic settings. With LISD, we have created a robust program that combines our apprenticeship opportunities with their co-op working program. This partnership ensures a comprehensive learning experience that benefits all participants.

Apprentices will have the chance to learn on the job, acquire real-world skills, and earn while they learn, working at least 15 hours a week during their senior year. This hands-on experience is crucial for building a strong foundation for future careers in various roles, including water treatment operator, utility operator, equipment operator, fleet services, and positions in traffic or streets.

Upon completing their senior year, graduates are invited to interview for permanent positions within the City. By joining early, apprentices get a head start on the experience needed for certain certifications, potentially securing licenses ahead of their peers.
