Dan (CEP) and Manuel (SCE),
If you haven’t yet seen my recent email to the panelists, here’s the link. (I’d also like to show it during my presentation, along with the short video clips, if that’s acceptable.)
My first request is straightforward: please take an informal consensus — even just a quick headcount — to see how many panelists believe it is reasonable for the public to see photos from the canister inspections. While the CEP is not a decision-making body, it has often expressed a collective view, such as when David Victor noted that “the panel leans toward CIS as a solution.” This seems like a similar situation where clarity on the panel’s sentiment matters.
My second request is for SCE to explain why the camera angles for these inspections differ so much from those angles we are so concerned about? We specifically asked to see whether the damage on #72 has progressed over the past five or six years. If there are additional images that capture the gouge and corrosion on #72, they should be made public at this CEP meeting — not withheld until October 16.
By the time of the October meeting, the community should already have access to all relevant images, reviewed with independent oversight, so that we can focus on solutions rather than disputes over withheld evidence.
Thank you for considering these reasonable requests.
Gary
