Ash Wednesday

One more service tonight at 6:00 PM

As the solemn beginning of Lent, Ash Wednesday invites us to realign our hearts with God and His calling in our lives. The services will offered in Christ Chapel and will give us a meaningful opportunity to reflect, renew, and deepen our faith within our church community.

CAC Food Drive Kicks Off on Ash Wednesday

Last Sunday, we distributed nearly 100 reusable purple bags with shopping lists so parishioners could shop for much-needed items during the CAC Lenten Food Drive. Thank you to everyone who jumped on board early and to those who helped stuff the bags with shopping lists. Ash Wednesday is the official start of our Lenten CAC program, and we have a hefty goal of 20,000 lbs. a week. To reach that goal, consider that:

  • A weekly allotment of 37 lbs. feeds a family of four.
  • $66.23 per week feeds that family of four with the goods CAC provides.

What foods are needed most?

Option 1 – physical purchase

  • Canned tuna, chicken, diced tomatoes, and fruit (15.5 oz.) along with packaged dried beans (black and pinto) and lentils (2 lb.)
  • Family/bulk-size packaging is NOT recommended; it’s too heavy to carry home.
  • Click here for a full list of what’s needed.
  • Please consider donating bags to CAC for their shoppers—either paper, plastic, or reusable bags.

Option 2 – online giving

Thank you for your support of CAC and our neighbors in need. Look for weekly updates and volunteer opportunities. For more information check our website here, or contact Charles Crosby charles@corepm.net or Jan Paul janpaul1005@gmail.com

Adult Christian Formation | Sunday, 9:00 AM

Taking Lent Seriously

The Rev. T. Stewart Lucas, Vicar

Lent is a season of intention—an opportunity to deepen our spiritual lives and reconnect with God, creation, others (friends and foes alike), and ourselves. Taking Lent seriously doesn’t mean we walk around somber and joyless. Rather, it means being open to the transformation that can come when we step away from routine, hold back from something for a time, or approach things in a new way. Sometimes, that pause allows us to discover new life; other times, returning to an old habit makes it feel more like home—more joyful, more meaningful.

As a staff, we have taken great care in planning our Lenten journey together, and we invite you to do the same. How will you respond to the invitation to live a holy Lent? Through prayer? By fasting from something that no longer serves you? By giving more—of your time, your resources, your presence? Maybe it’s clearing out the physical and spiritual clutter, pruning back so that something new might emerge.

I especially want to draw your attention to our March Food Pantry Drive below as well as a special Women’s Event and Men’s Retreat soon. There is also a new art display in the Ventulett Gallery that you will notice on Sunday. Mark your calendars for the festive opening next Thursday with one of Ruth’s amazing receptions of course. Finally, note March 16 as the last time to offer your feedback to our Architects and then stay to help pack lunches for the Church of the Common Ground.

Lent is not just about giving things up; it’s about making space for what truly matters. Worshiping God, Cultivating Community, and Serving Others. Join us in taking this season seriously—not with heaviness, but with hope.

Ventulett Gallery Opening

March 13, 6:00-7:30 PM

Join us for an evening of creativity and inspiration as we celebrate the opening of our latest exhibition featuring works by Barbara Lehman and Tina Christina.

Barbara Lehman, whose career began with painting children's murals in 1978, has spent decades refining her craft. With experience in the Atlanta Decorator Showhouse, she brings a unique understanding of how art transforms a space. Now fully devoted to oil painting, she finds joy in creating something from nothing, capturing light, shadow, and color in captivating ways.

Tina Christina presents a bold and striking approach to realism in oils and acrylics. Her work offers an extreme yet ominous perspective, reflecting her mischievous spirit. She embraces both personal inspiration and commissioned collaborations, bringing favorite images to life with a simple, uncluttered touch.

Burn the Mortgage

Sunday, March 30, 2025 at 11:15 AM

We have almost paid off the note from our 2012 renovation (the balance is just under $10,000). So, it is time to celebrate this big moment. After the 10:15 service on Sunday, March 30, we will go outside to the luminarium (the big cauldron in the memorial garden) and burn the loan documents. Since it will be Lent, we encourage you to write down things you also want to be done with - and cast those burdens, sins, injuries, grudges, and worries into the fire. We will share some prayers (it is the Episcopal Church, we always have a liturgy), burn the mortgage and our burdens, and then celebrate with some "hot" themed food together. Join us for a celebration!

Pastoral Notes

If someone is in the hospital, has died, or has some other pastoral emergency, we hope you will contact our clergy directly. Please call the church office at 410-255-4023 and follow the prompts. This will connect you directly with the clergyperson on call for the week.

If you have joys to share, new births, grandbabies, graduations, or job announcements, we will gladly share them in our weekly Hi-Lights email if you send a note to communications@holyinnocents.org

Warning about email scammers

When you receive an email from a Holy Innocents staff member, please check if the sender's email address ends with 'holyinnocents.org'. If it does not, it is likely not from us. Unfortunately, some individuals are attempting to scam various church members, posing as clergy and requesting gift cards. We never ask for money in this way. If someone claiming to be Bill, Stewart, Ruth, or another staff member contacts you, please let us know immediately. Report the email, block the sender, and delete the message. If you have any doubts, please give us a call.
