St. Croix's most talented chefs heated things up on July 23 at the 26th Annual Taste of St. Croix as they competed for first place and an opportunity to join the USVI Culinary Team as Executive Chef. The team will travel to Barbados in November to compete in the regional Taste of the Caribbean competition. Chefs were challenged to create one appetizer and one entrée from mystery ingredients (protein, starch, vegetables, spices and more). Chefs had 15 minutes to draft recipes, 45 minutes to create the appetizer and 30 additional minutes to complete the entrée. The coveted first-place prize went to Jamal Miranda of Wokame Island Sushi, second place to Melvin Johnson of B&B Kitchen, and third place to Aaron Bradshaw of 1756 Grutto. Support the USVI Culinary Team as they Compete in Barbados this November!
We are pleased to announce CHTA’s Taste of the Caribbean event will be held Nov. 16 – 19 in Barbados. For 15 years, the USVI Hotel & Tourism Association has sponsored the USVI Culinary Team, a group of professionally trained chefs who represent our islands at the annual Taste of the Caribbean Competition. The team, comprised of an executive chef, a pastry artist, bartender and junior chef, match their epicurean skills against other teams from the region in a quest for culinary superiority. Last year granted us an opportunity to reform our team and restructure our approach after a long hiatus. Now, in 2026, we're ready to claim our place in the spotlight and show the Caribbean our growth and resilience! Visit chtataste.com for more information on the competition. The team could not compete without the support of generous benefactors. Sponsors assist the team with travel and accommodation expenses, team jackets, fundraising events and competition supplies. The level of sponsorship is outlined below with benefits. If I can answer any questions don’t hesitate to contact me at 340-690-1635 or email lisa@usvihta.com.
