PRESIDENT'S LETTER
Spring 2018
Charlotte Benson (Jyoti Devi)

Dear ACVA Learners, Friends,  and
Alumni,

Hello dear lover of Astrology. I hope that this edition finds you and your family doing well and prospering. We here at ACVA are re-adjusting and bearing up well enough, after the losses of our dedicated board members, Jessica Sayles, and Bill Levacy.

Thank you to all my friends and colleagues who have contacted me to offer their support of my position as the new president of ACVA. I appreciate the gestures and will rely on your good will and generous offers of help, in the future. It is apparent that I have some very big shoes to fill, and I promise to do my best to carry on the excellent legacy of our previous three presidents.

The Observatory- Vernal Equinox 2018

Welcome to Spring, and the temporary equilibrium between the light and the dark. This season celebrates the return of light and life, in many cultures, with the holy days of Easter, Passover, and Ramadan (in May.) This quarter begins with our Sun in the sign of a friend, in Pisces, Uttara Bhadrapada nakshatra. Venus transits the sign of his exaltation, Pisces, in Revati nakshatra, accompanied by debilitated Mercury there. Saturn continues moving through Sagittarius, in complex Mula nakshatra. Mars is right there, too. Rahu is in Cancer, Ashlesha nakshatra; Ketu is in Capricorn, Shravana nakshatra. Jupiter is retrograding though Libra, in Vishakha nakshatra.

It will be interesting to observe the actual effects of retrograde Mercury, while debilitated in Pisces, from March 23 until April 15. Will this retrograde motion somewhat cancel Mercury's debilitation?

New Moon in Pisces the Annual Varshaphal Chart
by Christina Collins
(Rani Bhuvana Tara Chandi Saraswati)

Varshaphal, or annual chart occurs at the exact time of the new Moon in Pisces every year. It is sometimes called the New Moon in Pisces chart. The reason we use the sign of Pisces and the new Moon (a conjunction of the Sun and Moon at exact degree) is because the current Sun is "actually" currently stationed in the sign of Pisces.

Approximately every 2166 years, the Sun will move back a constellation, due to the precession of the equinoxes.   When we read a horoscope, we note that the Sun is in a particular sign, and 30 days later we say that it is in the next sign (direct motion). Actually, what is happening is that the earth is rotating around the Sun, and each month the earth transits in front of a different constellation and we call this the "apparent" path of the Sun. But the Sun, in reality is currently always in Pisces and will be for a good while longer.
