Because Lutherans love group photos. We especially love photos with Seguin's newest Citizen of the Year! Congratulations Pastor Marcus! To say we are proud is putting it mildly. Thank you for helping Emanuel's strive "to be the church God is calling us to be by declaring God’s love, serving others, and embracing all." We are honored to work with you everyday and delighted that the community acknowledges your enthusiasm, vision, and exemplary servant's heart. Shout out to our Council Members who nominated Pastor Marcus. Good things are going on at the corner of Mountain and Travis Streets. We are better together. | | | |
5th Sunday after Epiphany, Year A
Light shines in the darkness for the upright, the psalmist sings. Isaiah declares that when we loose the bonds of injustice and share our bread with the hungry, the light breaks forth like the dawn. In another passage from the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus, the light of the world, calls his followers to let the light of their good works shine before others. Through baptism we are sent into the world to shine with the light of Christ.

Worship with Holy Communion and Imposition of Ashes will be in the Sanctuary at 6:30 PM.
| | "By Faith: A Midweek Lenten Series," will center our time each Wednesday on this question, “What is faith?” The text from Hebrews 11:1 defines it in this way: “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” This series will focus on the book of Hebrews, especially the eleventh chapter. Our first four weeks provide a journey through the faith of the Old Testament figures, especially Noah, Abraham, Moses, and the Israelites. Then, our fifth week, will bring us to Jesus, “the perfecter of our faith,” and his path to the cross. Our evening will begin with a meal at 6:00pm. There is always a place for you at the table. | | |
Cub Scout Pack 107 celebrates its 16th year at Emanuel’s and Troop 12 completes their 2nd year! They are excited about their growth and the opportunity to make a difference in our community. Scout Sunday is celebrated in honor of a Scout’s “Duty to God” and their commitment to the Scout Law that says, “A Scout is Reverent.” It is our privilege to recognize those involved in the ministry and welcome them to Emanuel’s.
Bravo to scouts earning the Polar Bear Award for camping in cold weather. They braved the below freezing temps (19 degrees!) out at Canyon Lake last weekend. Special kudos to the leaders and chaperones who ALSO endured.

"Lord of the Rings and the Parables of Jesus," Jan 11 - Feb 15 led by: Paul Sims & Pastor Marcus at 9:00am in the Family Life Center. The story in the Lord of the Rings is so fundamental and incarnational, it’s no wonder people see the Gospel in them. Join us as we compare the Gospel as we know it, how it appears in J. R. R. Tolkien’s works, and learn to understand the parables that Jesus tells all the more clearly. We’ll work through “The Good News of the Return of the King: The Gospel in Middle-earth” by Michael T. Jahosky while reading Isaiah 40-55, along with many of the parables Jesus mentioned throughout the gospels.
