Dearest Friends,

A blessed back-to-school season to all the students, teachers, parents, and staff returning to a new daily rhythm of learning, loving, and living.

May the chaos be low, the learning be deep, and the relationships be full of grace. And may there be enough pauses along the way to breathe, listen, and remember that even the ordinary rhythms of our days are holy ground.

I have been feeling so very grateful for the holy ground of sharing my new book, Praying with Jonah - she is 2 months old today! Tonight, Jonah and I get to begin our first 6-week book study with the Women's Spirituality Group at the North East Reintegration Center in Cleveland (NERC). What a blessing!

A quick favor to ask: If you have found Praying with Jonah to be meaningful - it pains me to ask, but - could you please (pretty please!) leave a review on Amazon or Goodreads. It helps spread the word about this little book far more than you know! Thank you!!!

If you are longing for ways to feed your soul, check out any of these offerings and let's connect!

SPOUTING OFF BLOG

MoSSS

(Minutes of Shared Sacred Silence)

As many of you know, I love silence. I look forward to a silent spiritual renewal retreat with the same enthusiasm as a sports fan with tickets to the Super Bowl!! Go team silence!

And yet, as we know all too well, it can be tough to find time to step away from the responsibilities of everyday life and claim that special "set apart time" for a silent retreat.

So, I wonder...is it possible to bring a bit of that sweet silence home and weave it into the activities of our daily lives?

A practice that I have found incredibly helpful is taking random minutes of sacred silence right in the middle of the busy-ness of my daily life. A deep breath and just one minute of silence can help pull me back from the edge of chaos - reminding me that God's peace is always present within me no matter what is swirling around me.

One minute of silence reminds me that I am standing on holy ground... both in the spaces of immense beauty and in the moments of immense stress.

Incredibly, it is all holy ground... the traffic jam, flower garden, emergency room, forest glen, courtroom, chapel... all of it!

Because I love sharing these minutes of sacred silence with you, I have created a special YouTube playlist that I am calling, "Minutes of Shared Sacred Silence (MoSSS)" - soft space to land gently for a moment in the midst of our busy lives.

I will continue sharing MoSSS with you via social media as I have been, but hopefully this playlist will make it easy to find all these short videos gathered together in one place. You might especially enjoy the collection of MoSSS from the recent Total Solar Eclipse Retreat in Spain recorded between July 31 and August 12.

I'd love to know how you are weaving MoSSS into your daily life.

How are minutes of shared sacred silence helping you create a bit of soft space to land gently for just a moment right in the middle of your daily life?

In the wise words of Ram Dass,

"The quieter you become, the more you can hear."

PRAYER FOR THE SEASON:

May Compassion Flow

God of all creation,

We pray for those impacted by floodwaters

in Nepal and China, in the Grand Canyon, in Ohio,

and in places whose names we may never know.

We pray for those who are frightened,

for those searching and rescuing,

for those waiting and wondering,

for those who have lost homes, livelihoods, and loved ones.

Bring comfort to those who mourn,

may they feel your Presence.

Give strength to those who are struggling

to simply make it through another day.

Protect those still in danger.

Open pathways for help to reach those in need.

And when the waters recede,

may compassion continue to flow.

Remind us, O God, that none of us is alone.

Waters that flood one community touch us all.

May we carry one another through these storms of life

with prayer, with generosity, with presence, and with love.

Amen.
