Downtown the Downtown Master Plan is Planning its Public Engagement Kickoff for Spring
In December, Smyrna First Baptist Church closed on its $15.8 million sale to the City of Smyrna. This sale totals nine acres and includes existing facilities with surface parking next to Smyrna Market Village. It is a rare opportunity for all of us to reimagine our downtown and help plan to transform our downtown experience for future generations.
City of Smyrna has hired a public engagement consultant, MKSK, to lead the master plan process. The end product is a plan that is visionary - reflective of the community's vision - and feasible - able to solicit a developer who can build out the master plan vision. Public engagement will likely kickoff this Spring and last a year. We hope to see you there!

Ordinance Change:
Code Amendments to the Alcohol Ordinance and Package Store Tastings
The Community Development Department had received multiple requests from alcohol manufacturers for the ability to provide tastings at package stores in accordance with state law. They reviewed other alcoholic beverage ordinances of several local municipalities and made a recommendation to Council. Council passed the revisions Tuesday, January 21st.
What does this mean? Smyrna's ordinance now reflects state law; and allows sales representatives, manufacturers, and wholesalers to hold tastings at local package stores. This change should allow our local brewers to better market themselves and increase foot traffic at their retail locations.
Any package store wanting to implement this new ordinance will need to contact Community Development prior to serving. Call them at 678-631-5387.
