Historical societies are important to the culture of Northern California helping preserve, interpret, and share our region’s diverse and complex history, ensuring that future generations understand the roots of their communities. That understanding teaches us how past events, struggles, and achievements shaped the present, allowing informed decisions. It builds stronger, more connected communities, and preserves cultural traditions.
Located in Dutch Flat, the Golden Drift Historical Society and Museum is 100% powered by volunteers. They are preserving the historical heritage of Alta, Dutch Flat, Gold Run and the surrounding area in Placer County. The Society operates the Golden Drift Museum, part of Placer County Museums Division, and provides docents to lead guided tours of the historic town of Dutch Flat and the historic Dutch Flat cemetery. The Society maintains a library of research material in the Doug Ferrier Memorial Library and hosts events such as an open house, and being a part of the Heritage Trail Tour.
With grant funds from Placer County, administered by the Arts Council of Placer County, Golden Drift Historical Society is organizing a Taoist Cleansing Ceremony at Dutch Flat Chinese Cemetery. They are collaborating with the Chinese History & Culture Association, Chinese American Pioneer Heritage Committee and Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association. The commemorative event in September will include lion dancers and musicians, from San Francisco. Drummers and erhu players perform the exciting, traditional Cantonese music. Following the ceremony at the Chinese Cemetery, there is lunch and informational presentations at the Dutch Flat Community Center. Watch for more info coming soon!
