In Memory of Our Valued Chamber Members

At the San Leandro Chamber of Commerce, our members are more than just colleagues — they are an integral part of the organization and community. This summer, we lost two beloved members of our community, and their absence is deeply felt.

Chef Nile, owner of Moussaka Kitchen, had just participated in San Leandro Restaurant Week this past July. We were honored to enjoy an incredible staff lunch there, with Nile personally cooking and even helping bus tables. Her generosity, hard work, and warm spirit made her a true gem in our community.

Bruce Barnes, of Bancroft Uniforms, was part of a Chamber legacy — his business has been a member for over 70 years, and he personally served on our Board of Directors. We were fortunate to see him often at networking events, where his kindness, dedication, and friendly nature always stood out.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and staff of Nil and Bruce.

May their legacies of service, connection, and kindness continue to inspire us all.

Discover Your Future in the Trades

Youth Career Panel, October 7

We’re excited to host a Youth Trades Career Panel on Monday, October 7th, from 6:00 to 7:00 PM at the San Leandro Public Library. This event is designed for young people ages 14 to 22 and their families who are exploring what’s next after high school or college.

Panelists will represent a wide range of skilled careers, including electricians, construction professionals, heavy equipment operators, manufacturing experts, auto mechanics, and more. They will share practical, concrete steps on how to break into their industries—covering topics like training programs, entry-level hiring practices, certifications, and the aptitudes employers are looking for.

Our goal is for every attendee to leave with at least one clear, actionable next step they can take the very next day—whether that’s connecting with a contact, applying for an apprenticeship, or enrolling in a certification program.

If you know a young person wondering what their next step should be, encourage them to register for this free workshop and start building their future.

Paw-sitive Vibes Only: SLCC Celebrates National Dog Day

Every workplace has its own personality — a unique culture shaped by the people (and sometimes the pets!) who are part of it. Here at the San Leandro Chamber of Commerce, we believe a thriving workplace isn’t just about what we do, but also about what makes us happy to show up each day.

For us, one of those joys is our dogs. Whether it’s staff, board members, or visitors bringing in their four-legged companions, we welcome our furry friends with open arms. They break up the energy of the day, inspire us to take a mid-day walk, and brighten our moods with every wag and nuzzle.

In honor of National Dog Day on August 26th, we’re celebrating the pups who are part of our Chamber family. They remind us that a great workplace culture is built on connection, joy, and the small things that make the day better.

Here are just a few of our favorite canine co-workers:

Happy National Dog Day from all of us — two-legged and four-legged — at the SLCC!
