Julie Phillips, Skin Essentials
Julie Phillips has been an Esthetician for more than 30 years. She worked for renowned dermatologist Dr. Joe Fiore, as his assistant for 15 years in Fort Myers Florida. Julie then moved to Pennsylvania and worked for plastic surgeons for 6 years, as the head of the hair transplant team, and the Esthetician in charge of helping the patients with their skin care and helping them with their post-care after surgeries. She was also the surgery scheduler for one of the surgeons.

In 1998, Julie moved to Santa Barbara to open her own skincare practice, Skin Essentials. She was the first Esthetician to bring microdermabrasion to Santa Barbara, a new and unheard-of treatment back in 1998. Julie’s philosophy from the beginning was to deliver impressive, long-lasting results with every facial. At Skin Essentials, there is a vast array of machines to assist with the facials. Microdermabrasion, ultrasound, vibraderm, and Oxygen all help make the facials at Skin Essentials even more special. In addition, having the most technically advanced products is a real passion for Julie. She believes it is a very important adjunct to having healthy beautiful skin.

Julie is also a certified permanent makeup expert. She has spent 27 years helping women look good when they wake up in the morning. She has helped many women who cannot see as well anymore, or have Parkinson’s and can’t apply it, or who have had cancer, and have no brows. Philanthropic Champion
Jen Gamble, Lights Up Theater Company
Jen Gamble grew up in Northern California and fell in love with Santa Barbara as a junior in high school when she came to study theatre at UCSB during a summer study program. She returned to UCSB and graduated with a double major in environmental studies and English/theatre arts.

Following college, Jen worked and lived in Washington DC exploring career opportunities in education, nonprofits, and business. In 2001 she earned an MBA from UC Davis and continued to build a professional career in marketing and sales -- focusing specifically on start-up companies. In 2005 Jen stepped away from traditional work to start a family with her husband, Jared Ficker in Sacramento, CA. As a busy mother to three children, she still made time to foster her love for theatre and worked to make the experience available to others. For six years, she volunteered with the Sacramento Children’s Theatre company, which provided free live theatre to 25,000 kids a year. As the chair to the organization, Jen helped produce a month of free, live theatrical performances for children from kindergarten to 3rd grade. For many of these children in the greater Sacramento Area, this was their first and only exposure to live, musical theatre. Not only was Jen instrumental in transitioning the company to a new permanent location, but she also had the opportunity to perform on stage in characters such as a mouse, a train, a video gamer, and a mama bird!

Jen and her family moved back to Santa Barbara in 2019 to live the dream of being back in Santa Barbara and to take advantage of new business opportunities. Within a week of their return to SB (Jared is also a Gaucho), Jen was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. After working through a year of treatments she was finally cleared to put the pieces back together. After such a terrifying reality check on life, Jen’s priorities became clear – that she was only going to put her time into something that was intentional, fueled by passion, and part of contributing to the greater good. It was then that she met her business partner, Amy Love, and Lights Up! Theatre company (501C3) was formed. Lights Up! is in its 5th season with its enduring mission to bring professional and nurturing performance arts training to the teens in our Santa Barbara community. Lights Up! has a robust scholarship fund and will not turn away any qualified student based on their ability to pay tuition.

A year ago, Jen was diagnosed with cancer recurrence. While this health challenge has caused Jen to significantly scale back her time with Lights Up!, she remains passionate about seeing Lights Up! to the next level and ultimately finding it a permanent home so it can better serve its students and the greater community.
