Dear Members,
On Oct 7, 2022, New York City Mayor Eric Adams issued Emergency Executive Order 224, in response to the bus loads of asylum seekers entering NYC.
In addition to this order, a new tactic by the city was deployed to try and counter the efforts of buses coming into NYC with migrants. This tactic has now grown into an attack on all buses entering NYC in and around Port Authority.
Every bus, regardless of origin, is being pulled over and searched for any possible infractions. Each infraction, regardless of how minor, is accompanied by a criminal court appearance citation.
We, as an association and as an industry, are searching for solutions and any assistance would be most appreciated. This is an urgent matter and will be debilitating for all our carriers that move passengers (seniors, students, commuters) into NYC.
Here is an article from the New York Post on how it initially started. As I mentioned this is now much broader and goes after ALL buses.
We are writing our representatives and calling NYC Mayor Adams directly. We have also contacted ABA and UMA to get their help.
We are asking YOU to contact Mayor Adams with your concerns and personal examples of summons and stops you are experiencing. Please feel free to reach out to your local representatives as well.
