SASSY Sister!

March is International Women’s Month, and at SSL we celebrate it with purpose. As we recognize International Women’s Day on March 8th, it feels especially meaningful to declare who we are and what we stand for.

This month is not just about recognition. It is about honoring the courage of women who rise, lead, nurture, build, advocate, and serve. It is about celebrating both the quiet strength and the bold voices. It is about remembering that our presence matters in every space we enter. And it is about paying tribute to the brave women who paved the way so that we could have a voice and a rightful seat at the table.

That is exactly why I am sharing our Manifesto with you this month.

At Suits, Stilettos & Lipstick®, we define ourselves by the values we live. Our Manifesto is more than words. It is our anthem. It reflects the heart, culture, and spirit of our sisterhood. During a month dedicated to women around the world, it is important to boldly affirm who we are and how we rise together.

I invite you to take time to read it. See yourself in it. Stand taller because of it. And remember that you are never walking alone.

I also invite you to enjoy my featured article, “Sorry, Not Sorry,” where I challenge the quiet conditioning that has taught so many women to apologize for taking up space. It is time to fully own our voice, our leadership, and our place at every table.

Scroll down to Community Highlights for exciting news in our sisterhood. We are thrilled to welcome our newest board member, Ariadna Balaguer, whose leadership and heart will help move our mission forward. We cannot wait for all that we will accomplish together.

We are also celebrating a very special birthday. Please join us in wishing Ina Lee a joyful year ahead. As one of our inaugural Honorary Chairwomen, my mentor, and a cherished SASSY Sister, Ina’s wisdom and unwavering support have helped shape SSL into what it is today.

And do not miss the Inspo Corner, your go to space for bite sized motivation and feel good vibes to keep you encouraged and inspired.

Remember, when one woman rises, we all rise. And when women stand together, there is nothing we cannot accomplish.

Happy International Women’s Month!

With love and purpose,

Our Manifesto:

The Heart, Culture, and Spirit of the SSL Foundation

We are SASSY women who work hard and play hard.

We redefined what it means to be SASSY and wear it as a badge of honor.

We are Smart, Assertive, Strategic, Selfless, and Young-at-heart.

Our core values guide us as our North Star.

We Empower. We Lead. We Impact.

We are supportive, heart-centered, inclusive, and spirited women.

Resilient and unapologetically bold.

Our strength is our suit of armor.

We put on our lipstick attitude no matter what.

We wear our stilettos on our feet or carry them proudly in our hearts.

We are visionaries and creators.

Effective leaders and humble followers.

We are game-changers.

We are doctors, lawyers, mental health experts, and teachers.

Entrepreneurs, poets, and motivational speakers.

From one profession to another, we rise.

We are proud to be mothers, wives, and daughters.

Sisters, friends, and lovers.

We are human rights advocates, peacemakers, and community leaders.

Philanthropic to the core.

We are courageous and fearless dream chasers.

Wise women, for sure.

We come from all walks of life.

Different ages, shapes, shades, and sizes. Yet there is one truth that unites us…

We are empowered women empowering other women.

Sisterhood at its best.

Yes, we are SASSY indeed, but

the kind of SASSY all admire and aspire to be.

Sorry, Not Sorry

Make room. I’m staying.

By Dr. Elizabeth King, LCSW, CHt

There was a time when many of us were taught to begin our sentences with “I’m sorry.” Even when we did not say it out loud, it was in our subconscious.

Sorry for speaking up.

Sorry for leading.

Sorry for wanting more.

Somewhere along the way, women learned to soften their brilliance so others would feel comfortable.

Not anymore.

This is International Women’s Month, and I have something to say.

Make room. I’m staying.

Not because I need permission, but because I belong here.

Every boardroom.

Every classroom.

Every stage.

Every table where decisions are being made.

Sorry, not sorry.

For generations, women have carried families, communities, businesses, ministries, and movements. We have bent without breaking. We have rebuilt when life knocked us down. We have led quietly, powerfully, and consistently.

And yet, how often have we minimized our accomplishments? How often have we downplayed our expertise? How often have we apologized for our ambition?

As a psychotherapist and educator, I understand the cost of constant self-minimizing. When women repeatedly apologize for simply existing, it erodes confidence and fuels imposter syndrome. That is not humility. It is conditioning.

The shift from “Do I belong?” to “I earned this” is transformational. It changes your voice. It changes your posture. It changes lives.

That is why the work of the Suits, Stilettos & Lipstick Foundation matters so deeply to me.

Through the Heidi Dennis Scholarship and the LIFT Mentorship Program, we empower women to pursue education, leadership, and purpose with confidence. Through RISE, we build resilience in young people early. Through John and Elizabeth’s Toy Drive, we remind children that they are seen, valued, and worthy.

This is what “Sorry, not sorry” looks like in action.

It looks like a single mother going back to school and refusing to shrink her dreams.

It looks like a woman sitting in a board room and saying, “I have something to contribute.”

It looks like a leader who walks into a room and does not apologize for her experience, her wisdom, or her faith.

This month, I invite you to notice where you are still shrinking.

Where are you dimming your light?

Where are you over-explaining your worth?

Step forward. Take your seat. Lift another woman as you rise.

International Women’s Month is not just about celebration. It is about reclamation.

Reclaim your voice, your confidence, and your right to lead without apology.

And if anyone questions whether you belong in the room, smile with your brightest red lipstick and say,

Sorry. Not sorry.

Make room. I’m staying.
