I was honored today to be joined by Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur, Fire Chief Brian Byrd, and Police Chief George Kral to
announce
that the Toledo fire and police departments have been awarded the 2019 Port Security Program Grant from the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency in the amount of $730,455 to purchase an emergency response vessel. The new vessel will replace our current boat, which has been in operation for 30 years. I also want to thank Congressman Bob Latta, who could not join us this morning.
Toledo has the second largest port on the Great Lakes and this specialized vessel will be used to respond to a variety of incidents within the Port of Toledo and area waterways. Traffic on the Maumee River is on the rise because of the amazing development occurring downtown and in East Toledo, including Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. and the new Metropark and housing development at the Marina District.
Also, I invite everyone in Toledo and the surrounding area to join us tomorrow, Aug. 17, for northwest Ohio’s largest and most recognized event for the LGBTQIA+ community -
The Toledo Pride Festival
. The event kicks off with a parade at noon Saturday that runs down Adams Street to Promenade Park. Toledo Pride has always been a family-friendly event and is another example of Toledo's inclusivity. See you there!

Scientists and engineers will explore Delaware Creek over the next several months. The city of Toledo and Hull & Associates, Inc. are creating a plan to improve water quality by reducing nutrients and sedimentation in Delaware Creek, between South Detroit Avenue and the Maumee River.
The city will host a public meeting in the fall to share ideas and gather input after preliminary plans are prepared.

At the Toledo Jeep Fest parade, fun as far as the eye can see
Friends Chris Rutherford and Jason Perry have been selling vintage Jeep parts and traveling around the country to sell them at festivals for the past few years. This year, the duo from Virginia, drove seven hours and made it to Toledo’s Jeep Fest.
The 52: UT has no shortage of selling points
For 147 years, the University of Toledo has established itself as a staple in the region for more reasons than one. First and foremost, obviously, are the academics. UT is one of 27 public universities in the nation to offer the number and depth of undergraduate and graduate programs, and professional degree programs in law, medicine, pharmacy, and others.
