At La Casa de Esperanza, our mission to build pathways to prosperity often starts with something as seemingly simple as a tax return.
Through our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, individuals and families receive free, IRS-certified tax preparation services, helping them claim every dollar they’ve earned—especially life-changing credits like the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and the Child Tax Credit (CTC). In a single visit, our team helps hard working clients recover critical income to pay rent, buy groceries, or save for the future through our Stash Your Cash campaign.
This year our program received two separate IRS site reviews—and earned 100% compliance with no corrective actions or recommendations both times! It’s a rare distinction, and a testament to the care, precision, and integrity our incredible team of staff and volunteers brings to each taxpayer we serve.
When Milwaukee’s largest VITA provider—Social Development Commission (SDC)—unexpectedly closed last year, La Casa stepped up and stepped in to meet the needs of our community. This year's expanded services into Milwaukee have filled the gap and ensured that low-income households continue to have access to support that empowers each individual we work with and builds a stronger community.
Every number we file represents a story of resilience. We invite you to learn more about how La Casa is creating measurable change—one return, one refund, and one family at a time.
The reality is, we could not do this without you. For that we are beyond grateful - your support of programs like this help break generational cycles of poverty. Take a moment to explore our impact and consider sharing our story with someone who cares about economic empowerment.
