Welcome

Happy Canada Day!

July 1st celebrates the anniversary of Canadian Confederation which took place 159 years ago in 1867. Wherever you are, take a moment to thank Canada for insulin, cardiac pacemakers, the electric wheelchair, the electron microscope, the first Internet Search Engine, Java Programming Language, the telephone, the snowmobile, the zipper, basketball, lacrosse, ice hockey, and the Wonderbra, among other contributions.

We can’t wait to welcome you this fall and show you all we have to offer.

Meet the Guests of Honour: Steele Curry

Steele Curry was a passionate reader, collector, and sometime reviewer of mystery fiction and thrillers for over 40 years. Since 2000, he was a regular attendee of Bouchercon, and from 2008 to 2012, Steele was active in the Bouchercon National organization.

In 2021, Steele donated his collection of some 8,000 first edition books, mystery-related publications and archives to the University of Calgary to be held in its special book collections department as the “Steele Curry Mystery, Espionage and Thriller Collection.”

Steele passed away in 2024, but his contribution to the genre remains. We are thrilled to honour him at Bouchercon 2026 as the Fan Guest of Honour.

For a sneak peek of his collection, plan to attend the special pop up exhibit featuring the Steele Curry Mystery, Espionage, and Thriller Collection or attend the presentation led by Annie Murray, rare books and special collections librarian, who will guide the audience through Mr. Curry’s magnificent collection, exploring its depths, strengths, and surprises. The presentation will also provide advice to collectors.

Call for Silent Auction Donations

In keeping with Bouchercon tradition, we'll be holding a silent auction at our Calgary event. Donations will not only help raise funds for the Further Education Society of Alberta but are also a great way to advertise you and your work.

We are grateful for any contribution, big or small, but there are a few things to note. Auction items that do well usually contain more than books – they might contain swag, tea, coffee, chocolate, or handmade items. Auction baskets can have a theme, like Halloween, BBQ, murderer munchies, Canadiana, etc. Many attendees are traveling, so bulky items may be an issue. Consider donating a service, naming rights to a character, a virtual book club visit, a manuscript critique, etc. Due to border crossing issues, it is probably best to avoid alcohol, fresh fruit, or veggie items.

More information can be found here.

Calling All Cozy Mystery Fans

But don’t worry — every cozy author is welcome to bring swag for the swag table and can connect with readers throughout the convention. This is a great chance to share your work, meet fans, and spread that cozy magic!

Cozy and historical cozy authors interested in entering the lottery can fill out the form here. The deadline to enter the lottery is August 28, 2026. Authors who’ve been selected will be notified by September 13th.

Please note: Readers (and everyone else attending the convention) don’t need to sign up. Just come by and join in the fun. Whether you’re a die-hard cozy fan or just curious, we’d love to see you there!
