Dr. Gary Coulton, Associate Professor of Psychology, serves as the Faculty Ombudsperson at Texas A&M-San Antonio. The Faculty Ombudsperson is a designated neutral faculty member chosen by the Faculty Senate who works with faculty at A&M-SA to explore and assist them in determining options to help resolve conflicts, problematic issues or concerns related to their employment at A&M-SA and to bring systemic concerns to the attention of A&M-SA for resolution. Festival de Cascarones Breaks Attendance Record … Announces Golden Egg Winners
With a record attendance of more than 8,000, the annual Festival de Cascarones brought the community together on campus for the official finale of Fiesta. Congratulations to our Golden Egg Competition student winners, who each received a tuition waiver for the summer 2022 or fall 2022 semester. The two winners included Abraham Segundo, a current student, and Javier Carlos Hernandez, a new incoming transfer student currently studying at Northwest Vista College and working full time. Texas A&M University-San Antonio Awarded Grant to Support Paid Internships
Texas A&M University–San Antonio has been awarded $55,200 from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) to support internship opportunities at the University. The funds will go toward the Mays Center for Experiential Learning and Community Engagement’s Summer PAID: Pay Assistance for Internship Discovery program and will benefit students who have secured a summer internship that is unpaid as well as those still seeking an opportunity. Texas A&M University–San Antonio and Amerigroup Team Up to Promote Financial Literacy
Recognizing the critical connection between families’ financial health and physical and mental health, Texas A&M University-San Antonio (A&M-San Antonio) is partnering with Amerigroup Texas to support the University’s Mays Center for Experiential Learning and Community Engagement’s Financial Literacy program. The announcement comes as the nation celebrates Financial Literacy Month in April, which the U.S. Government has formally recognized since 2003. Read more.

Student Selected for ASM Future Leaders Mentoring Fellowship
Master of Science in Biology student Ariel Robles has been selected to participate in the American Society for Microbiology (ASM) Future Leaders Mentoring Fellowship (FLMF), selected by ASM and the Subcommittee on Minority Education. The award package for the fellowship includes:
- Complimentary registration and lodging to participate in ASM Microbe (June 9 – 13, 2022), held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C.;
- Participation in an ASM FLMF Symposium (June 8 – 9, 2022), held prior to the ASM Microbe meeting;
- Year-round mentoring with a team of mentors from various career sectors in microbiology;
- Engage in online discussions and community building activities through the community platform, ASM Connect; and
- A complimentary 2023 ASM membership.
Ariel also serves a student researcher in Associate Professor of Molecular Microbiology Dr. Davida Smyth's lab.
