Can I Transfer My GI Bill® Benefits?

Yes—active-duty and Selected Reserve service members may transfer unused Post-9/11 GI Bill® benefits to a dependent if:

• You've completed 6+ years of service at the time of request
• You agree to serve 4 more years
• Your dependent is registered in Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS)

If you’ve received a Purple Heart, you may qualify to transfer without the service requirement.

How to Transfer Benefits:

• Request a Transfer of Education Benefits (TEB) through milConnect (not VA.gov)
• Dependents can apply online using their own VA.gov account
• You cannot apply on their behalf
