Greetings!
There are 105 active wildfires burning across British Columbia, with 51 classified as out of control. The province has declared a province-wide state of emergency as rapid blazes force thousands of residents to evacuate.
In Salmon Arm, BC, Canada, we have NOT been on Evacuation Alert or Evacuation Order this season so far.
I have my Emergency Bag packed, to be ready.
The Bald Range wildfire (Fire K51490) is burning out of control in the Kamloops Fire Centre region. Discovered on August 7, 2026, it has grown rapidly to over 15,500 hectares, prompting multiple evacuation orders and alerts. Regional restrictions, including off-road vehicle bans, are in effect.
The fire in Kamloops is about 1.5 hours west of us.
The fire in Summerland started on Saturday, August 8, 2026 (see photo above) and 20,000 people were evacuated, with one death of an 80 year old lady that we know of.
That fire is still raging, 4 days later and is about 2 hours south of us.
There is another huge fire in Vernon which started July 31st and is still raging. That is about 45 minutes south of us.
Thanks for the many emails and messages asking about how the fires are affecting us in Salmon Arm, BC, Canada.
Stay safeπΊπ
