Saint Theresa School News & Information

Picture Day

Picture Day is scheduled next week for Wednesday, October 21, for Preschool 4s through 8th grade. All students in kindergarten through seventh grade should wear their regular uniform (no gym uniforms or DOUD tickets, please); eighth graders may dress up. Students will take individual and class photos. Families should have received a paper handout and an email from our photographer, Colleen & Co. about ordering photos. Picture retake day will be on Thursday, November 19, which will also be the opportunity for Preschool 3s to have their photos taken.

Coat Drive

The Respect Life Club will collect gently used coats between November 2 and 6 to benefit Catholic Charities. Please place all coats in new or good used condition in the boxes in the gym lobby. All sizes are needed. We would love to collect so many coats that we fill a few vans. Please contact Mrs. Elmore with questions.

Join us Sunday, November 15 at 3:00 p.m. as the Bears take on the Charlotte Checkers at the GIANT Center. It’s Kids Night, and the first 3,000 kids ages 15 and under will receive a knit hat courtesy of Belco.

All seating sections are open, and ticket prices vary by section. If you’d like to sit near other Saint Theresa families, we’re aiming for the 100 Level Defend Zone, Sections 109–113. After selecting your seats, you can add a parking pass for $17.60 (typically $35.00). Get your tickets here. We hope to see lots of Saints cheering on the Bears!

CAIU Services at Saint Theresa School

Saint Theresa School is blessed by the presence of several professionals from the Capital Area Intermediate Unit 15 (CAIU) who offer student support services during the school day. Below is a description of each service offered at Saint Theresa School, and who provides it.

Counseling

Mrs. Kristin Gardner is our CAIU Counselor, and is in our building on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. She works with students on academic skills (organization, study skills, time management), social/emotional (behavior, communication, emotion regulation, executive functioning, social skills), and career readiness (exploration and skills). Mrs. Gardner works with students in kindergarten through eighth grade.

Occupational Therapy

New to Saint Theresa’s this year is occupational therapy, provided by Miss AnnaMae Walker. As a school-based occupational therapist, Miss AnnaMae helps students develop the skills they need to participate in and succeed throughout the school day. These skills include fine motor development, handwriting, visual-motor coordination, sensory processing, self-regulation, and greater independence in classroom activities. Miss AnnaMae is in the building on Tuesday afternoons to support our students and their individual needs.

Reading and Math Intervention

Mrs. Terri Mandia works mostly with our kindergarten through fifth grade students on reading and math intervention. These students must be referred by a teacher during Data Team Meetings and have already had Tier 1-classroom interventions. Mrs. Mandia completes additional diagnostics and determines whether a student qualifies for remediation. With parent permission, these students are seen in a pull-out format individually and/or in small groups to work on the skills needed to meet grade level benchmarks. She is in school on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

Speech and Language Pathology

Miss Julia Williams provides speech and language therapy for kindergarteners to eighth graders. Speech and language therapy involves a wide variety of communication skills including articulation (speech pronunciation), expressive and receptive language (understanding and producing language), pragmatic language (social skills) and fluency (speech disfluencies and stuttering). Students are referred by their classroom teachers and evaluated for enrollment following parental consent. Students who qualify are seen during the school day for pull-out individual or small group sessions. Any parent with concerns should contact their student’s teacher to begin the referral process. Miss Williams is in the building on Thursdays and Fridays.

Stellar Saints

A huge thank you to all of the families who donated items for our Stocking Stuffer Collection. We are excited to announce that we collected 1,089 items plus 500 pieces of candy. All donations will be sent to our sister parish in Louisa, Kentucky. If you would still like to donate items, please drop them off at the parish.

Celebrating Our Little Way Challenge!

What an incredible journey! For 10 days, our Saints showed us just how much can happen when we choose to do small things with great love. From completing acts of kindness and filling our E-Kindness Wall to reaching out to family and friends for support, our students and families truly embraced The Little Way.

A HUGE thank you to everyone who participated, donated, shared a fundraising page, encouraged our students, and helped make this challenge such a success. We are so grateful for the way our Saint Theresa community came together!

And now for one last celebration… congratulations to our Little Way Challenge Grand Prize Winners, each receiving a $100 gift card!

Grand Prize Winners: Ronan Yetter (grade 3), Ella Broadway (grade 3), Bernie McDermott (grade 4), Bailey Drew (grade 3), and Ellie Moore (grade 4).

Congratulations to our winners and to ALL of our Saints who participated! The prizes may be fun, but the kindness, generosity, and school spirit we saw throughout these 10 days were the biggest wins of all.

Small Acts. Great Love. Big Impact.
