News, Notes, and Announcements from 4Cs

October 2025

A Note From Our Chief Executive Officer

Dear 4Cs Community,

As we embrace the fall season and all the change it brings, October is a pivotal month for family wellness and civic participation. As we honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month and encourage self-care through regular health screenings, we are also calling on every member of our community to get “Vote Ready” for the important elections coming up in November. At 4Cs of Alameda County, we believe in the power of every individual’s voice to shape the future for our children, families, and neighborhoods.

I encourage every eligible member in our network—families, caregivers, staff, and supporters—to participate in the upcoming election. Whether you vote by mail, drop off your ballot, or head to the polls, your vote truly matters. Local and state ballot measures can directly impact child care, education, housing, and services for families across Alameda County. Let’s make sure we show up for our children and for each other. Please visit the Official Election Site of Alameda County to check your registration status, register to vote (October 20 deadline), or make your voting plan.

If you have questions or need assistance, the 4Cs team is here to help you navigate the process with nonpartisan resources and information. Your participation strengthens our entire community and lays the foundation for a brighter tomorrow. Thank you for being an engaged member of the 4Cs family. Let your voice be heard- vote!

With gratitude,

Takija T. Gardner

Chief Executive Officer

Community Spotlight

Juan Cuba

Parent Class Educator

Juan Cuba holds many titles: to the many 4Cs parents he has worked with he is Parent Class Educator, to his coworkers at Family Paths he is the Parent Stress Counselor, to and to the greater community, he is a Parenting and Fatherhood Specialist. Regardless of his title, Juan has been a strong partner of 4Cs for more than five years. The close collaboration between 4Cs of Alameda County and Juan began when a partnership was formed to offer virtual Abriendo Puertas Opening Doors courses for families in the midst of the pandemic. Five years later and he continues to be 4Cs trainer for the Abriendo Puertas courses and the agency’s Spanish fatherhood support series, Papás Unidos. Juan’s passion for connecting specifically with fathers and the Latino community, and sharing relevant information about the healthy development of families and learning for parents, is palpable. He loves knowing that parents are applying concepts learned in class to help their families thrive. We are grateful that Juan brings his expertise and dedication – and many hats – to 4Cs parent trainings!

Note: You can reach Juan and his incredible colleagues at Family Paths where they have a helpline for parents experiencing stress. The helpline is a free and accessible service for the entire community. At Family Paths, Juan also runs a support group for fathers or father figures in person every week. Learn more about the programs offered by Juan and Family Paths at 1-800-829-3777 or www.familypaths.org.
