NEWS & UPDATES
Our Website is Being Redesigned
The web site is getting a facelift! In addition to aesthetically redesigning our website to better showcase our services, we are improving the menu structure for a responsive user-friendly browsing experience. It will be easier for parents, teachers, and user-groups to find information and explore their options. Of course, the site will also be mobile friendly, and it will incorporate a range of accessibility features.

Watch for our new site…COMING SOON!
Shoreline Naturalization
As part of our ongoing commitment to impose ourselves less and less on the natural environment around us, Camp Kawartha has initiated a shoreline naturalization project with the Kawartha Lakes Environment Council. Members of the Council have taken a lead role in developing a plan with the assistance of Helen Batten of Basterfield and Associates. The plan illustrates active planting of native trees and shrubs, grasses, creating a “no-mow” zone, and encouraging wildflowers and aquatic plants. Shorelines often suffer by our need to be in the water. Instead, we should see shorelines for what they are – vital components of an ecosystem, linked to water quality, preventing erosion, filtering contaminants, and retaining carbon, nutrients and sediments.

Thank you to the Council members, Bill Ratcliff, Lois Wallace, and Rob Little for their work and willingness to help.
Pathways to Stewardship & Kinship
The Pathways to Stewardship and Kinship model is an exemplar of how to engage children at every stage of their development to help them understand and respect the living systems that support us all. The model is now being sought out in other jurisdictions, and to our delight, far-afield. Executive Director, Jacob Rodenburg has been asked to speak in September about PSK at the national conference for the Canadian Association of Zoos and Aquariums in Calgary! Congratulations Jacob!
Our thanks are extended to Jim Moloney, Riverview Park and Zoo Manager & Curator, for sharing the PSK with his colleagues.
Camp Kawartha Gear Travels Well!
Heather and Jeffrey Chalmers take Camp Kawartha with them on their trips. Here, Heather is wearing her durable Camp Kawartha ball cap while the sun is setting in the Moroccan Sahara near Merzouga, Morocco. The cap also visited Portugal on this trip!

Show us where you take your Camp Kawartha gear by emailing a photograph to Susan at philanthropy@campkawartha.ca, we’d love to feature it on our web site.
Sloan Public School Provides Accolades
Our Outdoor Education department often gets compliments, but our guests from Sloan Public School went out of their way to express their appreciation. We are gratified to know that everything from food to programs to staff were so prized. Thank you Mr. Penfold for sharing your reviews!

FOR THE FAMILY
Spring Activities for Kids
When spring arrives (it officially arrived on Wednesday, March 20th) nature seems to take a deep breath, preparing for the spectacular changes that are coming.  Bird chatter is one of those changes, and we will soon see the return of swallows, swifts and nighthawks to hummingbirds, robins and warblers. The chatter escalates because it is time for that all-important mating season.

Consider this year helping one of our little over-wintering chatter-boxes, the chickadee. You can make a chickadee nesting box with your child.
